About this deal

Longtime fans of the Glycerin won’t notice many differences between the new model and the outgoing one, and the max-cushioned experience remains the same. One new feature of the Glycerin this year, though, is the addition of a support version, too—the Glycerin 19 GTS. While the standard Glycerin model is a maximum-cushioned, neutral trainer, the Brooks Glycerin GTS 19 and 20 (newly released in July 2022) are classed as stability trainers. Stability running shoes such as these are ideal for runners with overpronation, who need more ankle support and a less flexible sole. This has been the case for my Brooks experiences. Once they are broken in they were a dream to run in. The Glycerin has always been a highly cushioned shoe with a premium upper and smooth ride, and version 19 is no different in that respect. It's a solid update with an improved upper that is more breathable and adaptable. There is a comfortable amount of padding around the heel and tongue, and although I found the forefoot to fit a touch narrow, my feet felt secure without any slipping.

Brooks Glycerin 19 was designed to have all the comfort of its predecessor, the ultra-cushioned Brooks Ghost, but with a lighter weight and higher energy return. Through its DNA LOFT cushioning, this running shoe is built for smooth heel to toe transitions and its rounded heel offers better support and alignment to protect the joints. With the Glycerin GTS 19 being the top tier stability offering you expect top tier materials and technologies, which it delivers both. The one area where the Glycerin 19 beats all other max-cushioned trainers is its magnificent upper which is an engineering masterpiece.

I can confidently say that the Glycerin 19 is an improvement over the 18. The softer midsole is a move in the right direction and the ride transitions are smoother. These changes also don’t come at an increase in weight which is a bonus. There’s nothing wrong with being a firm, max-cushioned shoe. Some runners prefer firmer shoes because they are more stable and more responsive but the problem is that the advertising for the Glycerin is misleading. But what makes it good isn’t just the zones for different parts of the shoe. The mesh also feels soft and smooth, which makes it more comfortable around your foot. While the differences between then Glycerin 18 and Glycerin 19 aren’t huge, there is one big change to the Glycerin this year: the introduction of the Glycerin 19 GTS.

The cushion of the Glycerin absorbs impact beautifully,” she says. “It strikes the perfect balance between feeling soft, responsive and flexible.” This upper of the new Glycerin melts away on your foot,” one tester says. “The upper material is soft and seamless, and it gives you amazing breathability.”

Based on my experience with the Glycerin GTS it was the right move and I look forward to future versions. If the Glycerin GTS 19 is an indicator of what’s to come, it is only going to strengthen that loyalty. The same blown rubber used in Brooks’ offerings is used in the Glycerin GTS. This is a less dense and softer blown rubber compared to others. Sure you could find more cushioning or responsiveness in a max stability trainer, but I doubt you will find one that is a more comfortable and smoother ride than the Brooks Glycerin GTS 19. We’ll keep refining this process, but our goal is to ensure we have the best and most detailed information so you can confidently buy the right shoes every time. Padded, stretchy and roomy

The biggest difference between the outsoles of the Glycerin 19 and the 18 is that the 19 has one long price of rubber on the medial side that extends from the rearfoot, all the way to the end of the midfoot just before where the forefoot starts. Brooks engineered the Glycerin for the softest ride by using a bed of its DNA Loft cushioning. The super-soft foam feels like a spa day for your feet, making it a great choice for long runs or recovery days. The heel fit is important in the stability trainer because it can either add or subtract an amount of the stability felt. The Glycerin GTS 19 heel fit adds to the stability. Brooks draped the shoe in its 3D print mesh upper. The mesh provides different zones of stretch and structure, which gives the Glycerin a more dynamic fit. The mesh over the toe box has a bit of stretch to it, while the midfoot and heel are more static. This is our first lab-tested shoe. We are starting to put hard numbers to everything we can test on a pair of shoes, from the softness of the midsole and outsole, the force it takes to flex and bend the shoe, slip resistance of the laces, where they fall on the minimalist index, and so much more.
