About this deal

The non-USA maps (and any expansions you’re using) remain available; if they include a route that goes through or into one of the new states, then it’s still there! This means that you can now take your train all over North America and beyond! There are some things to look out for that can help you figure out which routes other players want. Players should, in turn, reveal their destination cards and add or subtract the points indicated according to whether or not that route was made. Then it is time to see who has made the longest continuous path, which is worth an additional 10 points. No matter the number of players in your game, it’s important to grab your key routes early before they are taken by someone else! The ability for players always having access to their last claimed route which can be used each turn after it has been completed until another route is claimed instead (known as Train Stations). This allows you never to lose your trains even if they reach their destination meaning additional points at the game’s end!

It's really easy to understand, it's super fast-paced because you can only do one thing on your turn (draw new cards or claim a route), and it still gives the brain a nice workout if you like to play tactically. In 2 or 3 player game, the rules say that for each double route, only one of the double routes can be used. The player with the longest continuous path of routes receives this special bonus card and can add 10 points to his score (in case of a tie, both players receive the points). While this expansion doesn’t offer anything ground-breaking, it gives welcome variation and builds upon the fun factor and accessibility of one of the most popular board games of a generation – and that’s where its simple beauty lies. Your wiggly route will get in the way of the straight lines the other players are creating and will put you in a great place to get those points for the longest route of the game! The route scoring table is on the game board. There are also some cards in the game that show you how many points you score for each route length. These should be recorded by moving your scoring marker each time you claim a route. Draw Destination Cards There are 30 destination cards in the game. Shuffle these and deal three to each player. All cards should be kept secret so other players don’t know where you’re heading.

Note: In 2-3 player games, only one of the double-routes can be used. The other route will be closed to other players once one route has been claimed. Some routes between two cities benefit from two train lines, however, these only come into play when there are three to five players. When there are just two players these double routes are not in play, and you will need to find another way around. The board itself is a good size. The map of the USA is a thing of beauty, highlighting main cities from Montreal and Vancouver to Los Angeles and Miami, with everywhere in between all connected by rail. The concept of the gameplay is complicated at first but satisfyingly simple once you grasp the mechanics of the game. We've broken this guide into two sections: Full games; and Expansions. You'll need to start with a full game version, since expansions are only designed to add extra options and won't come with everything you need. The different versions of the full game vary by offering different rules and maps – they're all unique. The complete set also includes a rules booklet that provides the instructions for two different games; one using ferries and ships while the other uses train only. It’s up to you how you want to play! Gameplay And FeaturesIf a replacement card is a locomotive, the player can't take it immediately. If at any time, 3 of the 5 face-up cards are Locomotives, all 5 cards are immediately discarded and 5 new ones are turned face-up to replace them. The Pennsylvania half of this map collection adds a share mechanism to the basic TtR game. Each time that a player completes a route, they claim a share of one of the companies depicted next to that route. At the end of the game, whoever holds more shares of a company than all other players receives points as a reward. Slight warning for this next tactic! It won’t make you very popular with your fellow gamers, if they figure out what you’re doing! But it is a tried and tested way to stop them from getting the routes they want.

The countdown begins and sudden deep roars cut through the air as all the cars leap away from their starting lines; the Grand Prix is underway. Dust and wind rush past your helmet as you enter the first corner. Pushing your engine to the limit, you almost spin out but tightening your grip on the steering wheel you slide through the corner apex still in first. You got this! If you claim a route on one side of the board, and then one on the other side, you make it difficult for other players to know which routes you’re going for!

As a couple who had been together for almost eight years we loved spending time together, but also started to have our own hobbies and interests to keep us busy. We had collected the usual suspects of gaming. Namely games like Monopoly, Scrabble, Pass the Pigs, etc. We loved playing a good game now and again, but I could see that there was a different level of board games out there to be played. There are 8 types of regular Train Car cards, plus Locomotive cars and their colors match various routes between cities on the board.
