Samsung should revamp its design so that the Flip 6 has more curves and less sharp edges to make it more comfortable in the hand. Sound quality is very impressive on the whole, but the Flip 6 suffers from some distortion at high volume. This was particularly evident in the upper mid-range, with vocals and instruments in Redbone’s “Come and Get Your Love” losing clarity once I cranked it above 80%.

Don’t let that put you off too much. Both speakers sound rich and lush, with a pleasingly easy-going soundstage that’ll suit casual listeners down to a tee - and, both come with support for JBL’s PartyBoost feature. The biggest user-facing changes are the YARN CLI experience. While this FLIP needs not necessarily change the parameters of the CLI, it will change the responses. For example, jobs will be accepted without first waiting for all TaskManagers to be allocated and available.

Given that the Flip 5 is a past What Hi-Fi? Award winner, it will come as no surprise to learn that the Flip 6 is another resoundingly five-star product. The sonic upgrades in terms of clarity and breadth across the frequencies are easy to spot, and if you want more from the midrange and less from the treble, say, you can tweak it in the app. For a nominal price hike over the launch price of the Flip 5, there’s certainly more detail here, too. Otherwise, you can’t go wrong with the JBL Flip 5 or the JBL Flip 6. They are both excellent outdoor, portable speakers. They have a rugged and minimal design, they’re easy-to-use and offer incredible sound without a ton of extra features to navigate. They simply play music and play it well. It's not clear how much the next Snapdragon chipset will improve on the efficiency front, but that could also help prolong battery life on the next Flip.You may not want to crank either speaker all the way up, though; both suffer from distortion at high volumes, and you’ll get the best audio performance with the volume at about 50-60%. The core functionality of a Yarn Session is to have a set of machines that are already allocated and thus can accept a series of short jobs. For some reason, Samsung makes it more complicated than it has to be if you want to be able to run full apps on your cover screen. This could be fixed with a simple update, but at launch, it really hinders the potential of the Galaxy Z Flip 5. Like the Razr Plus, Samsung really needs to lean on the usability of the cover screen from day one.
