About this deal

You may have heard recently that college is overrated. It’s certainly true that educational institutions offer degrees that may not lead to a high-paying career. Not to mention college costs have soared and so has student loan debt. The cost of a college education rose 169 percent from 1980 to 2019 and wages didn’t even come close to keeping pace. E!Online (August 12, 2018). "Teen Choice Awards 2018 Winners: The Complete List". E! . Retrieved September 6, 2018. What at first seemed like a good business decision for a couple as much in love with sailing as they were with each other soon became a nightmare. Definitely the hardest part was dealing with Richard being gone,” she said years later to the Chicago Tribune. “There were times I didn't even want to live anymore because I didn't know how I was going to go on. I was never going to fall in love again.” We’re social beings. Our communities give us the daily support we need to survive and thrive. Connection to others and interaction with them is also a key part of building tolerance for those who look or believe differently from us. If we drift apart, society begins to fray.

I imagine two stone-faced poker players throwing chips into a pile. One player is named Rescue and the other is Death. The stakes keep getting bigger and bigger. The pile of chips now stands as tall as a man and as big around as a raft. Somebody is going to win soon." From bestselling author, CNN+ host of No Mercy, No Malice, and NYU business school professor Scott Galloway comes an urgent examination of the future of our nation – and how we got here. One of the things I loved about this book is Tami's independence. When she starts working on boats, she insists on learning how to navigate, even with a sextant, and this knowledge definitely played a big role in solving her life. She knew more and had more experience with boats than most of the men she sailed with. I could identify with her desire to live life on her own terms and not stay settled. We’re seeing a decline not just in community organizations but, predictably, in friendships too. In 1990, 40 percent of men and 28 percent of women reported having ten or more friends. By 2021, deep into the age of social media, a staggeringly low 15 percent of men and 11 percent of women said they had that many friends. I think most people can agree that there are things in America that are not good. We may vehemently disagree on what those things are, how they came to be, and what to do about them, but I don't really know anyone who is walking around saying, "Man, things are just super awesome in the ol' US of A these days!"Scott Galloway’s book “Adrift” is a story about America told in 100 charts”. It’s very easy to digest because visuals are easier to process than words. One final thought, the author DOESN'T really cover here. He notes that one of the most dangerous trends in America is the growing number of undereducated, lonely, poor, angry and terminally single young men. Well, you know who else has that problem? China - and is this really the situation we want in the world's two superpowers as they edge closer and closer to confrontation? The Hollywood Reporter (August 23, 2018). Having at least a passing knowledge of nautical terms is helpful when reading this book but not necessary. Callahan does a great job at making his narrative relatable to most people. This book is part memoir, part survival guide, and part contemplation on life. The technical descriptions and diagrams are balanced out by his lyrical writing style. It was a little odd at first that it was written in present tense, but it made the story come alive. I could hardly put it down. From the moments that made me laugh to the moments that made my eyes sting to the moments that made me reflect inwards, this book is truly a treasure. And Callahan tells it with a poetic profundity. Apparently she expected to be hugged plus that there would be lots of tears and she was also saying that it was weird that his parents did not cry. (This was quite a while after the accident by the way) and to me she suggested that his parents were very cold which I am sure they were not. If you like visual representations, especially charts, and would like to see how America is doing today versus other countries and versus itself in the past, you might enjoy this book. What I did not like was that it was so short, that she jumped from what was happening on the boat to how she met her boyfriend and such but that is still not a problem.

I recognize him immediately. he's from the Crisis News Crew... For a fleeting moment, I wonder if they were filming as the container fell off the ship. Have they been reporting from the depths of the ocean ever since?" (Williams 59) For the next few days she got her bearings and rigged her sail to get herself in position so she could use currents she hoped would take her to Hawaii. Fleming, Mike Jr. (February 6, 2017). "STX Boarding Shailene Woodley, Baltasar Kormakur Sea Survival Tale 'Adrift' ". Deadline Hollywood. Penske Business Media . Retrieved January 30, 2018.
