About this deal

There you are, occasionally chatting, sometimes announcing that you’ve beaten a monster (which gives all other players a small bonus), cursing the moon when someone rolls a bunch of bad dice pairings that cause them to take damage. Also notable: while there is a bestiary of creatures and crawlies to vanquish, these dungeons are 100% without dragons. I appreciate that they have all of the content and then essentially a “quick reference” on the right side. The passive players (or in the case of solo play, the only person at the table) must use only the white dice to make their pairs, giving the active player the most flexibility each turn.

It strikes me as a nice, casual alternative to the more intense dungeon crawler-type games that I’ve played before. Usually I have something pithy or topical about what I’m up to or what I’m planning, but I’ve been writing a lot this week and I think I’m hitting the intro paragraph limit? When you reach a room with a Treasure Chest, you choose from three different dice mitigation strategies. There’s a subtle and invisible force you must harness that’s not dumb luck (Just Luck) but learned skill, like slowly achieving prowess with the blade. It’s more of an aggressive deterrent, but, you can get knocked out of the game if you run out of health.

In exactly the same way that books are Just Words, movies are Just Frames, music is Just Notes, and video games are Just Pixels. To Justies, everything can be mashed into one-dimensional blurbs that say nothing about a game nor reveal anything about themselves (except maybe that they are total buzzkills you should disinvite to your next game night). If a player is not able to cross out two boxes (combination of dungeon spaces and dealing damage to a monster) then they lose a life point.

It’s much more my speed than, say, an “I cut, you choose” type of game, since my choice doesn’t negatively impact anyone else. Players normally make dice pairs with only the white dice each turn, but if you’re the Active Player you can also use the black die to make pairs and sums (so from a pool of five dice total). It starts off fairly straight-forward, but gets more challenging as rooms get crossed off leading to a frantic race to the end. With the games being highly variable based on rolls made by players and the variety of maps available,, you can rest assured that most games will not be the same.

Aside from this the rules need some clarification for sure, and rather than include multiple different language rulebooks, they could all be put in one book. There’s also a solo option, which in my opinion is where the game shines since there isn’t any player interaction outside of benefiting or muttering when another player defeats a monster first. Roll well as make your way through four unique and beautifully illustrated realms: Annoyed Animals, Defiant Dinosaurs, Puzzled Pyramids, and Clumsy Cultists.

For this purpose, we transfer to our partners your data which is necessary for the use of our offers. It adds some decision making into your pairing and there is a nice race element to defeating the monsters. It is here that players who take further damage will also start gaining increasingly more negative points. As a consolation, when a monster is first defeated by a player, all other players get one free damage to that monster (even if they can’t access that monster yet!
