In the Blue Mountains of Jamaica, at over elevations of 2000 feet above sea level, in rich soil and with continuous rainfall, grows the famed coffee. Because of the very limited supply and increasing demand, it comes as no surprise that this coffee continues to rise in scarcity and value. The medium body complements the fruity hints of plum and creates a pleasant experience that even the average coffee drinker will enjoy. This enabled Toybox to provide the resources needed for the street outreach team throughout 2020, conducting 240 visits to children in the most high-risk areas in Guatemala City as well as deliver 100 children across the city a warm and nutritious meal each week. Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee is strictly regulated, yet not all coffee marketed as Jamaica Blue Mountain is, in fact, the real deal. This high altitude helps create a cooler microclimate with abundant rainfall which allows the beans to slowly mature over an extended period of time to develop an amazing flavor profile.

Located north of Kingston on the eastern side of the island, the Blue Mountains rise to elevations of 2,350 metres. For us, it has always been Jamaica Blue Mountain that epitomises the unique attributes of this special coffee variety.

But it is going to a be a regular for me; it's not the most complex coffee for sure and not cheap, but it's still monstrously cheaper than Starcrooks charges for their swill, but it is IMO absolutely delicious. It has a wonderful balance of flavour, with sweet notes of caramel, apricot and a delicious creaminess.

The coffee that thrives in this glorious part of the Caribbean has been celebrated for centuries for its mellow, chocolatey flavour. The Blue Mountains of Jamaica are located between Kingston in the South and Port Antonio to the North. These all meet the Fairtrade Standards that ensure that farmers and workers are treated and paid fairly, as well as meeting Fairtrade’s environmental standards that ensure production is sustainable, living up to our slogan “Coffee with a Conscience”.The area is favoured by the ultimate combination of the ideal altitude, mineral-rich soil, gentle cloud cover, mountain shade and ample sunlight. Since its establishment, the Jamaica Coffee Board has helped give Blue Mountain coffee ‘best in the world’ status in the coffee industry, with the board thoroughly inspecting the size, colour and cut quality of beans. Various British Governors have owned sections of the Flamstead property and revelled in the high quality of the coffee produced. With all this choice available, care must be taken to find and choose the right Blue Mountain certified package.

The balanced acidity and sweetness, fruity and lightly nutty smooth taste give this bean its legendary fame. Today the Shirley family continue St Clair’s work to produce a coffee of great and consistent quality at the Stoneleigh and St Clouds estates high in the parish of St Andrews and right in the heart of the Jamaica Blue Mountains. Five years later in 1728, Sir Nicholas Lawes, Governor of Jamaica, received a gift of one coffee plant from the Governor of Martinique.

Its fame has led to many imitators, and Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee is now carefully protected by the Coffee Industry Board of Jamaica. Outside of this protected and highly controlled area, coffees such as Jamaica Low Mountain, Jamaica Supreme and Jamaica High Mountain are grown. We recommend for cafetières you use 7g per 120-150ml of water and for filter machines, you use 30g per 500ml water.
