My aim is to focus on reviewing board games and how they play for two people and, on occasion, how they play for one person. There have been times when my wife thought she had the game solved with her approach only to suffer defeat when I discovered a new approach that is just a little better. My next look at a game may well be Dr Who, Time of the Daleks, not labeled as one player on the box, but has potential I think. Even though the basic gameplay, once you've mastered the rather thick rule book, is somewhat repetitive, different features add exciting twists to the game, such as getting caught by the Reaver or the Alliance cruiser, which sometimes results in dead crew or lost cargo.

You’ll notice that Monty has two Fightin’ skill points, and Jesse, my pilot from the previous picture, had one. I think we also need to look at a way to hold the tokens other than baggies, as that might help with its ease of use during actual gameplay. Each player gets their own Firefly class ship and there are also ships for the Reavers and Alliance Cruiser. I’m skipping plenty of details here, of course, but in general we all found this to be a very good time.

John-Paul dives into the two new expansions: The Respectable Folk set includes companion Inara Serra and preacher Shepherd Book while the Wanted Fugitives set includes physician Simon Tam and the gifted River Tam. I cannot recommend this one enough, especially since it was a game that firmly placed my wife and I along the path to becoming serious about the board gaming hobby and proved to my wife that she can learn, and enjoy, long games with fairly complex rules. Stronghold: Definitive Edition has been announced by Firefly Studios and is being released on November 7th 2023.

The Firefly board game is marking its 10th anniversary with a collector’s edition that packs in everything ever released for the board game, plus a new expansion and some fancy upgrades to its components.
