About this deal

I am a big fan of true crime and I was so excited to read “Love in the Time of Serial Killers.” Ms. Thompson’s creative storyline was funny, emotional and full of surprises. Phoebe is witty, brilliant and made me laugh with her in your face attitude. I loved the family dynamics she has with her brother Conner, and Sam’s shyness made their romance even more enjoyable. Phoebe was her own person whose sole focus was finishing her dissertation and securing a teaching position. She tends to guard her heart when it comes to commitment but meeting Sam definitely changed her mind about love. The bedroom stuff was WAY too anatomically descriptive for my preference. Eww. One more reference to “aching nipples” and I was going to lose my lunch, and that’s a tame example.

I also enjoyed Sam as a character. He would be the perfect golden boy of any romance. I mean, if he wasn't a serial killer that is.I will say that this novel has plenty of political comments so if you're like me who prefers romance without any of them in it, this might not be for you. A criminally addictive romance. With excellent wry humor, lovably messy characters, and so many heart-squeezing moments, this book is sheer perfection from beginning to end. Phoebe and Sam have a permanent spot on my list of favorite fictional couples.” —Rachel Lynn Solomon, New York Times bestselling author of Weather Girl I liked the story but didn't love it. I did love Sam. He was sweet and supportive. I understood why Phoebe was so scared of opening her heart coming from a broken home but I thought she was really rude to Sam most of the time. I understand protecting yourself but I have no clue why Sam would let her treat him that way. Alicia Thompson’s romance debut is an utterly charming delight. A hilarious and heartfelt love letter to anyone who’s ever gotten swept away by a personal interest. With toe curling swoons, witty banter, and enough true crime references to make Truman Capote proud, this is not one to be missed.”— Sonia Hartl, author of Heartbreak For Hire Alicia Thompson's romance debut is an utterly charming delight. The steam was so surprising! These days it’s super hard to know what you’re gonna get but reader we got dice! The last scene was the hottest and there’s probably enough sex for an unsuspecting Karen to give it a 1⭐️ review. The first scene was short and just this side of explicit but it still worked (because it was more than I was expecting). I was super surprised to get the second scene that we did and it definitely gave the relationship more of an edge and added an extra 🌶. The scenes weren’t super long esp after *penetration* but you had a clear visual of who was doing what and how it was being done and what it was being done with. A little dirty and hot and definitely more than I expected. There were a few other closed door moments. I’d say a little more explicit than the Hating Game and hotter than Beach Read?

But then she realizes he’s more dangerous than a serial killer. This man could be the one who can steal her heart, making her confront with feelings she’s never felt before! It doesn't help that she's low-key convinced that her new neighbour, Sam Dennings, is a serial killer (he may dress business casual by day, but at night he's clearly up to something). But it's not long before Phoebe realises that Sam might be something much scarier - a genuinely nice guy who can pierce her armour to reach her vulnerable heart. Naturally, she initially thinks the worst of the barefoot guy who appears out of nowhere late one night-offering to help her carry her desk into her deceased father’s home as she is arriving to move in temporarily-tasked with clearing it out to get it ready to sell. When Phoebe finally arrives to her childhood home she encounters with shaggy haired, barefoot, weird man who insists to help her to carry the desk she brings in her car. Her active imagination about serial killers that is fueled with lots of podcasts and true crime documents make her suspect that mysterious man is dangerous!

These cleverly constructed and slyly paced storylines contained an odd dichotomy with an extremely angsty, graceless, and dark main character fleshed out and implanted into wryly humorous observations, heart-squeezing inner musings, a fledgling romance she wanted no part of, smoking hot sensual love scenes, and smirk-worthy comedic scenarios. It’s criminal how much we enjoyed Love in the Time of Serial Killers, the perfect pairing of intrigue with utterly charming romance and a deeply relatable story of how sometimes life’s most complicated mystery is how to open your heart.” —Emily Wibberley & Austin Siegemund-Broka, authors of The Roughest Draft Meanwhile, I felt restless and pent-up and like if I didn't have him inside me right then I would explode.

All that said, my biggest complaint was the sheer number of slang and pop culture references. It would’ve been fine if I’d known ALL of the movies, shows, literary references, true crimes, acronyms, etc. that the author used, but since she didn’t explain most of them, it felt like she kept winking and nudging me with her elbow to laugh at her jokes, which I then had to Google for understanding. It pulled me out of the story too often.

The fast-paced plot is alternately hilarious and touching, and readers won't be able to put it down. True crime is an incredibly popular genre, and this book is a must-read for crossover romance fans.-- Library Journal (starred review) OMG! Phoebe and Sam might be one of the most adorable quirkiest, unconventional and extremely lovable couple! You're so beautiful," he murmured against my mouth, his hands still in my hair as he kissed me. This kiss was different from the ones in the pool, somehow--- slower, more exploratory, as though he had all the time in the world and he wanted to spend it with me. Not as awful as she first appeared-I tried looking at her through Sam’s eyes-to TRY to see what HE saw in her.

PhD candidate Phoebe Walsh has always been obsessed with true crime. She's even analysing the genre in her dissertation - if she can manage to finish writing it. It's hard to find the time while she spends the summer in Florida, cleaning out her childhood home, dealing with her obnoxiously good-natured younger brother, and grappling with the complicated feelings of mourning a father she hadn't had a relationship with for years.
