About this deal

All in all, this set is worth the MSRP. It's a nice set that pays tribute to the fans who will buy this set and there's plenty of bonus content to keep you occupied. It's a fun set. Shame on all the third party price gaugers for unfarily pricing it though. If you can get your hands on it for it's normal retail price, it's worth every penny. Random Space Media’s box set includes all 62 episodes of the series (and the feature film) in 1080p HD in their original aspect ratio of 1.78:1. Image quality is generally very solid, with accurate color and solid contrast overall. Breaking Bad was shot on 35 mm film from start to finish (in Super 35 format), so the source is of fine quality. The first season has a slight digitally-processed look to it though, with a bit of unevenness to the color and detail, possibly due to limitations in HD scanning technology when the show was first finished in 2008. It’s not bad in any way, just perhaps a little dated looking. Subsequent seasons get much better, however, and by the end the production values are excellent. Sound for each episode is present in English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. The series’s surround mixes are surprisingly dynamic and lively, with excellent bass, good precision, and lovely ambience in the surrounds. Dialogue is clean and clear at all times. Music is full sounding and well staged in the mix. Optional subtitles are included in English SDH and French. To sum things up: If you love Breaking Bad but are on the fence about dropping this much money, don't be. This is not just a "case" in the sense that the show is the main attraction and all it is is a place to put the disks when you're not using them; you can enjoy this even when you're not watching the show. There are no nasty glue patches, there are no peely sleeves that you can barely even use for fear of pulling them apart. This is a nice, quality product that will stay nice for a long time if you take care of it, and will probably stay nice for a long time even if you don't. Da waren wirklich äußerst intelligente Schreiber am Werk und ich hoffe, dass der derzeitige Streik in Hollywood bewirkt, das sie endlich die Anerkennung bekommen, die sie verdienen.

Edit: Someone in the comments pointed out that there is a video introduction where Vince Gilligan explains the coin. As I said above I'm staying away from any sort of special features until I've actually finished the show, but apparently it does have a purpose, and it's awesome, which I don't doubt in the least. So to summarize on the extras: really nice. It would have been cool to have had more, but what is there is actually substantial (albeit a little baffling in the case of the coin) and stands on it's own, not like a lot of the shoddy "goodies" that come with collectors editions. Wer diese Serie für unrealistisch hält, dem rate ich dringend mal in die Vereinigten Staaten zu reisen und sich mal umsehen und umzuhören, wie man da so lebt. Und sich mit Chemie beschäftigen schadet auch nicht.

Here’s more good news: Random Space Media’s box set includes essentially the same special features as the previous Sony Blu-rays. Here’s a look at what you get, broken down disc by disc… SEASON ONE – DISC ONE

Die Schauspieler sind einfach nur brilliant und es wundert mich nicht, dass diese Serie so viele Emmys und andere Preise abgesahnt hat. This complete box set, meanwhile, has the usual making-of featurettes and commentaries, which largely focus on the dull mechanics of making the key episodes, rather than providing any insight, as well as the slightly irritating and widely leaked "alternative ending", suggesting it was all a bad dream by Cranston's Malcolm in the Middle character, Hal. Now to the set. I've broken this down into sections, so if you're still reading this, feel free to skim it for the pertinent information you're looking for. It's a portrait of one man's simultaneous ascent (to drug lord) and descent (into moral depravity). In an extraordinary performance, Bryan Cranston, playing Walter White, takes us with him every step of the way. To get a sense of the scale of his achievement, just compare the first and final season covers: in the former, a mildly quizzical-looking man in white Y-fronts holds a gun in a way that suggests he doesn't know how to use it. In the latter, a monster looks out, a barely discernible snarling shadow. It's a different man and the same man. It's Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. The writing and dialog to me is second to none. And I can tell you unequivocally, that the finale to this sensational series tops any before it. And they created such a high standard that it was almost impossible to achieve that. For instance, at one point I was absorbed - for years and years - at The Sopranos. Every week you would wait anxiously for the next one and the one after that.

I see what others are talking about in regards to the rubber cement, the outside plastic that contained the barrel had a lid that was sealed with a rubber-cement like adhesive. I tried to be as careful as I could to take mine off, but it was really on there and required some force to get it off, so I fractured/tore the plastic top to it, which is no big deal since it is the outside case after all. Most people seemed to have thrown it away, I saved mine for the purpose of being a dust protector. Plus, it looks pretty nice in that plastic container with the rest of my collector sets.
