In this case, I’d opt for something such as the Trakker SLX or Sonik SK-TEK. These bivvies have a large internal space but cut down weight by using fewer ribs and lightweight fabric. Alright, they aren’t cheap and they’ll get you spending more money with all the fantastic add-ons available. However, if you’re looking for a shelter that’ll last a lifetime, that you’ll always be able to get parts for, and that is extremely customisable, a Trakker bivvy is a great choice. The main attraction of the Ascent over the HQ Dual Layer is definitely the price. This comes in at around half the price of the HQ.
