surprises in store for fans of the show, from the childhood of Prop Joe (1962), the early exploits of a young Omar (1985), and

4 ways to connect your soundbar to your TV | Currys

The “grand dame” horror films of the ‘60s and ‘70s, in which middle-aged (or older) actresses took great efforts in chomping on as much scenery as their stomachs could handle, had fallen out of fashion by 1983, when CURTAINS finally hit the screen (briefly) and video store shelves (eternally). It’s not surprising, then, that the film ended up being marketed with misleading box art, suggesting that it had something to do with a killer doll, a suggestion that most likely disappointed those looking for typically early ‘80s slasher fare. If your TV doesn't have HDMI ARC or a port marked HDMI output, then you'll need to use the digital audio output. This will either be an optical or co-axial port, so make sure your sound bar has the matching input. Tell our easy-to-use TV connections wizard what setup you have and it'll show you how to connect your devices.

Midnight Run has benefited from decades of distance from its contemporaries, which it towers above. Robert De Niro gives 110% to one of his silliest roles and the late Charles Grodin stands as a surprisingly confident counterpoint to his brutish scene partner — despite looking like a dad who lost his luggage en route to a corporate retreat. The Criterion release of Small Axe includes new 2K masters, new conversations between McQueen and writer Paul Gilroy, a three-part documentary about the 1981 New Cross house fire, and more. For the complete 4K Ultra HD experience with HDR, a 4K Ultra HD TV with HDR, an Ultra HD Blu-ray player and a high-speed HDMI (category 2) cable are required. The benefit of using an optical or co-axial cable is that the other devices connected to your TV, such as PVRs, TV streamers and games consoles, will use your home cinema system's speakers, rather than those on your TV. This will also be the case if you connect via the HDMI ARC port. Both films are certainly worth a look for horror fans, but FRIGHTMARE’s presentation and the fact that the film feels more polished gives it the edge over FLESH AND BLOOD. In any case, it’s great to see these films on Blu-Ray, and we’ll be eagerly waiting for the next batch of releases Redemption brings to the new format. @Paul Freitag-Fey

The Wire - Complete Season 1-5 (Blu-ray) - Warner Bros.

This shift to 1.33:1 optimization, along with numerous shots Simon has since deemed more artistic or meaningful via their original 1.33:1 composition, imposed several additional challenges during the remastering process. Thankfully, HBO invited Simon and executive producer Nina Noble to oversee and guide the later stages of the project, going so far as to delay the widescreen version's debut by several months so the duo could ensure the 1.78:1 image was as strong as it could be and, ultimately, as much to their satisfaction as possible. Problematic 1.33:1 shots were subtly altered to preserve artistic intent, visible equipment and crew members were carefully removed from the edges of the 1.78:1 image, and shots involving out-of-sync actors (who were previously off-screen) have been dealt with. (Further details about the remastering and Simon's involvement can be found here, along with a full overview of the process. I highly recommend it if the particulars of the widescreen vs. full frame debate are of any interest to you whatsoever. It's a terrific read.) The best place to see Moonage Daydream — Brett Morgen’s experimental splicing of concert film, documentary, biopic, and acid test — is on an IMAX screen, with the sound so loud that you wonder if you should have brought earplugs. But for all my love of the theatrical experience, I’m a realist. Your opportunity to see this film in the best presentation has passed. As with a sound bar, the best connection for a home cinema system is HDMI ARC, since it can send the audio and video signals both ways. This is even more useful with home cinema systems since many of them include a Blu-ray or DVD player. The Wire: The Complete Series Blu-ray delivers stunning video and great audio in this exceptional Blu-ray releaseTHE FLESH AND BLOOD SHOW certainly has its moments, and Walker takes some entertaining stabs at pretentious “art” film and theater, but for all of the talking the characters do, they’re not really given much depth and it’s sometimes difficult to differentiate between them. With the minimal bloodshed, it comes across as more like an adult-oriented “Scooby Doo” episode rather than a curious footnote in slasher film history, but it’s still worth a look for British horror fans.

Bodie Broadus), Michael Lee (Tristan Wilds), Bob Wisdom (Bunny Colvin), producer Nina K. Noble, and creator/executiveCompare that to Netflix, which is representative of other streaming services. It also uses the H.264 codec at a resolution of 1,920×1,080, but streams at around 12Mbit/s maximum. That’s a big difference between the two. To get its streaming rate down, Netflix has to throw away more detail in its video stream compared to the Blu-ray version.
