About this deal

Edit: Since this article was written Minelab has confirmed that the X-TERRA PRO is being launched at the IWA in March. See here for more details: https://treasurehuntingworld.com/2023/02/10/minelab-x-terra-pro-its-official/] Coils came in a low frequency 3KHz variety, a mid frequency 7.5KHz and a high frequency 18KHz variety. This meant that depending on the particular targets you were hunting for, you could maximise your time.

The other thing that makes the X-TERRA PRO special is that it can use all of the coils available for the Equinox and that includes third-party coils made by Coiltek. In our opinion, the Simplex is yesterday’s waterproof detector, but the X-TERRA PRO is the waterproof detector of today, and for the foreseeable future. The X-Terra Pro looks amazing, with its ‘camo green’ coloured control box and arm cup, and a shape which looks like a hybrid between the Minelab Equinox and the Minelab Vanquish. It is difficult to see where an “X-Terra Pro” fits into the current Minelab lineup. If the price is right though it could see of the Nokta Makro Simplex, Quest Q30 & Q60 and most certainly a whole slew of Garrett machines including the AT Pro and AT Max. If you are wanting to hunt more on open beaches rather than land, you may want to sway to a multi frequency machine as I outline below.I love the immediate familiarity like the Equinox. The controls and sounds are very similar. The folding feature on this machine undoubtedly beats the Nox, it is so amazingly compact! I love that I can use the same coils I already have from my Equinox, too. While the X-TERRA PRO has; All metal, Field 1 and 2, Beach 1 and 2, Park 1 and Park 2. So slightly more pre-set options on the X-TERRA PRO.

Adjust an array of essential and advanced detecting functions including Noise Cancel, Ground Balance, Volume Adjust, Threshold Level, Target Tone, Accept / Reject, and Recovery Speed. It’s the perfect machine for starting your detecting adventures with if you are brand-new to the hobby, but also a great specialised option to add to a detectorists tool-kit for those who want a modern, fun beach detector. In-Built Speaker (Included), Low Latency Wireless Headphones, Wired Headphones & Waterproof Headphones (Accessories) The switchable frequencies adds an extra layer of versatility and means that you can fine tune performance for different target types and the most difficult ground conditions.

The Simplex has been one of the best-selling machines in various countries and so has a great reputation. Minelab therefore had the idea of a metal detector being able to change its frequency by swapping its coil. Thus the XTerra was born!

Here's something I don't get. I think this new X-Terra Pro has only four selectable frequencies: {5,8,10,15} kHz. And the 8 kHz is only in beach mode. So why all these selectable modes? Let's just consider the Equinox 600. In multifrequency choosing different modes gave at least some mix of different frequencies, whether transmitted differences or processing differences (but not in all cases, AFAIK). (Still referring to the 600) when you go to single freq you lose that feature and you lose Iron Bias. So effectively there is no difference between Park 1, Park 2, Field 1, Field 2 (and maybe also Beach 1) when you are in single frequency. All you have left is five slots to select&store different settings from each other -- effectively custom storage slots (what ML likes to call 'User Profile') but otherwise every one of those five modes can be configured identically. Minelab very clearly stated some years ago that they would only make simultaneous multi-frequency machines going forward. So it does seem a little strange that we are now hearing rumours of a relaunched X-Terra series. Let us know what you think in the comments section below. Or drop in on our Facebook Group and comment there. Again, in my opinion, the XTerra Pro trumps the Simplex+ in several areas. Primarily, the build quality is noticeably superior. It also has a bigger coil and has 3 switchable frequencies which the Simplex+ doesn’t. Stand out from the crowd and step up your detecting game with the all-new X-TERRA PRO treasure detector by Minelab. Out of the box, simply set your detector to match your terrain with Park, Field, and Beach Search Modes and leave all the hard work up to the detector to start unearthing the treasure you seek. As your skills improve, X-TERRA PRO offers room to grow with PRO-SWITCH (Switchable Frequency Technology), so you can set it to 5, 8, 10, or 15 kHz at the press of a button and take control of any environment or situation that comes your way. Fully IP68 waterproof to 5 m (16 ft) and loaded with features like 5 audio modes, a control pod flashlight, and handgrip vibration you’ll be detecting like a pro from the moment you start swinging.
