A small device worn in the ear to reduce stress. Calmer features a unique technology that reduces distortion in our ears and calms your environment in a subtle, but potentially life-changing way. Does the Flare Calmer act somewhat like a passive ANC system you would find on wireless headphones? Not really.
If we go by Flare’s statement on the consequences of excess noise or distortion at these FR levels then possibly yes they are. To find the right fit for you, it may be helpful to try out different types of earplugs to determine what works best. If your ear canals are narrow or curvy, it may take some trial and error to find an earplug that will work for you. Fortunately, most earplugs tend to be inexpensive, so you can keep trying until you find something you like without breaking the bank. Sleeping Position Calmer’s technology is informed by research from Newcastle University and the Wellcome Trust Centre for Neuroimaging at UCL, which reported in the Journal of Neuroscience that many of the most unpleasant sounds, such as the scraping of a knife against a bottle, fall in the mid frequency range of about 2 kHz – 5 kHz. Our ears have evolved to alert us to stress by adding over 20 dB of mid-range resonance, which destroys our ability to hear high definition sound or relax in our modern noisy world. This is known as HRTF (Head Related Transfer Function).

The Loop Quiet earplugs are more like typical earplugs in that they reduce noise by 25 to 27dB, which Loop calls a 'medium' noise reduction. Amygdala = A mass of grey matter inside each cerebral hemisphere. It performs a primary role in processing memory, decision-making and emotional responses (including fear, anxiety, and aggression). Part of the Limbic system its job is to prioritize everything that comes into your brain: smell, sight, taste, sound and feelings. The effect also happens in the midrange of my ears. It seems to chop off the very top edginess. For instance, Saxophones tend to have a piercing effect but when the Calmers are in the piercing is gone and they sound smoother.
Flare or Loop earplugs are both great for reducing noise. But which one is right for you will depend on your level of sensitivity and what you want to use them for, as they work a little differently.

Note: Calmer is not an ear plug. It dampens unpleasant frequencies in sound which lowers stress and improves your audio experience. As for their noise reduction abilities, these earplugs passed our testing with flying colors. Not only did they muffle sounds, but they also allow enough sound to filter in so that you can still hear critical sounds.

Calmer Night features a unique design which reduces frequencies from 2 kHz upwards. dBud Between 20dB and 25dB will reduce the volume more, but you'll still hear loud sounds. These are popular for sleep and concerts. More than 25dB, and you'll experience a lot of noise reduction and even silence depending on your hearing. Some people need this level of quiet for sleep.
