After the felt has been worked into a loose ball, dip it into the hot water, then roll it between the palms of your hands loosely. Continue this process gradually making the pressure firmer between the palms of your hands. When you have a nice, solid ball, squeeze out any excess water. If you want to create a garland for a full-sized Christmas tree I would suggest taking the string and measuring it out in advance before you start adding the felt balls. My little helper below. If you want to make a very long garland, after finishing the first 10 feet simply begin another 10-foot segment but cutting another thread (cut to length) and attach it by sewing it to the very last felt ball from the previous garland. If you want a more permanent felt ball garland, you can sew each ball individually into place – that will take this project from 15 minutes to more like 30 minutes. My embroidery floss got knotted into a huge mess so I unwound it and wrapped it around a piece of cardboard.
