About this deal

I didn’t learn much about the metric system until I went to work for a BMW, Jaguar, Subaru and British Leyland dealer. Please remember it can take some time for your bank or credit card company to process and post the refund too.

There’s always just a little bit of “drift” that prevents you from getting precise cuts even when you are using a fence. The stress on sharp is critical and being prepared to give up on pushing a blade beyond its life’s span for the sake of saving a few pennies.

However much many of us may regret the passing of Imperial measurements, the fact is that we are now metric. Do you have any suggestions for improving fences on small (10in) bandsaws such as the Lumberjack I think you trialled a couple of years ago? The fence which fit my Delta Bandsaw table was pre-drilled that matched the existing hole pattern on the table. There are different schools of thought regarding where the blade / teeth should sit on the wheel tyres. The fence rides on a sliding table, which has two parts: a plywood base, and a hardwood runner that rides the angle-iron rail in front.

You want the hole for the bolt to be far enough away from the fence that you can get a hand drill in there. It can be fitted either to the rear or the right-hand side of the main table, to give support where it is needed most. To ensure accurate fitment and smooth movement of timber, the table extension features fine-adjustment mechanisms to allow the extension to be fitted perfectly flush to the table. Unfortunately, I could not use it, as it requires horizontal fence attachment tappings on the side of the saw. A hardwood spacer pushes the rail away from the front of the bandsaw table so the fence can ride on it.

This fence mounts to most 14' band saws right out of the box and can be modified to fit many others by drilling a single hole in the aluminum mounting rail. One of the issues with the Startrite bandsaws is the split table where the split comes at the front instead of the side. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. This UK-made high-quality steel table extension fits the SABRE-350 and SABRE-450 bandsaws, giving an extra 545 x 300 mm working area to increase the support the machine gives to larger timbers. All in all, I found that the best solution to some of these problems was to worry less about the fence and pay careful attention to getting the blade aligned and tensioned properly. The runner has an insert of ultra-high molecular weight (UHMW) plastic that’s slotted to fit over the angle iron and makes the runner glide easily on the rail. Now glue the block into its recess and drill a pilot hole through the block and into the runner for the threaded insert that holds the hinge bolt. But there should at the very least be the option of a self-adhesive measuring tape with metric divisions. The adjustment mechanism has two handles, one to adjust the fence angle and another to lock the setting. To maximize the pivoting action, the front of the fence needs to be spaced out from the end of the runner. I also preferred to bolt it in place as a single unit to get the alignment just right which then made it just a little more awkward to hacksaw through for a slot to remove blades through.
