The Marantz NR1711 is a home cinema set that offers a range of audio and video capabilities. With a power output of 50W per channel, it delivers a balanced and immersive sound experience. The set features 7.1 audio channels, allowing for a multidimensional audio setup that enhances the viewing experience. While both receivers deliver excellent sound quality, the Cinema 70s is better for those who want a more immersive sound experience. The extra amplification channels and the higher wattage make a noticeable difference in overall sound quality. Both modes extrapolate height information to create an enveloping virtual effect. It works well if your physical layout is standard 5.1. The main theme for Okja (Netflix, Dolby Atmos), which plays over the end credits, becomes forest dense and lush. These modes shouldn't be confused with the Virtual Movie setting accessed via the remote, which is unrelated legacy processing that should be consigned to history.
LipSync: This function adjusts the delay between audio and video output. You can do this manually or have the receiver set the LipSync function automatically. When connected to a TV via HDMI the receiver automatically adjusts audio output timing, if the TV supports an automatic LipSync function. You can also manually delay the sound output up to 500ms to synchronize it with the video image. Four Smart Select function buttons on the included remote allow you to store your preferred or frequently used settings and change them when you want — including input source, volume level, sound mode, Audyssey configuration and even “All Zone Stereo” setting for party mode. With the push of a button, the NR1711 instantly configures the receiver to your desired setting. The Marantz Cinema 70s and NR1711 support 8K video resolution, HDR10, and Dolby Vision. While both the Cinema 70s and NR1711 feature six HDMI ports, five HDMI ports on the Cinema 70s only feature HDMI 2.0b support, while all six HDMI connections on the Cinema 70s feature HDMI 2.1 support. This means we could only plug in one 4K at 120 Hz device, such as the PlayStation 5, into the NR1711, while we could run multiple 4K 120 Hz devices through the Cinema 70s. Marantz Slimline Cinema 70s and Marantz Slimline NR1711 support DTS:X. A technique used in DTS:X is similar to the one used in Dolby Atmos. Instead of a fixed number of channels, DTS:X defines object locations from the listener in polar coordinates. An a/v receiver then dynamically renders sound according to the current speaker configuration. The speaker layout employed by DTS:X is the sum of Dolby Atmos and Auro-3D. The amp has a familiar curved fascia, with two dials either side of a large and clear display. DTS Virtual:X provides immersive audio without height channels, creating virtual height effects in a 2.1, 5.1 or 7.1 speaker arrangement. There are several options for connecting the Wi-Fi. These worked smoothly, and we later found that the bandwidth was quite sufficient to flawlessly stream DSD128 music, the highest quality that this receiver can support. But size is not the only part of the receiver that has remained the same as the general look and buttons layout is completely similar to last year’s NR1710. And here is another area where the NR series excels. They offer a fully functional front layout as any full sized receiver does but at a smaller size. As such we get the usual two big knobs configuration with the left one used for input selection and the right one for volume control while a fully functional display sits between them. With the receiver supporting both wired as well as wireless connections (2.4GHz and 5GHz) you can choose what is best for your given situation. But streaming capabilities don’t stop there as with Airplay 2 you can stream music from Apple devices through the use of Bluetooth if you are an Apple lover. And since we mentioned Bluetooth we should note that the NR1711 can also stream audio to Bluetooth enabled headphones.
