What's new Modelling Light for Pre-visualization My first impression of the Godox V860 III flash was very positive. Taking the flash out of the box, I did notice that it was slightly larger and heavier than some other Godox flashes I’ve used. The extra weight is probably due to the new rechargeable Lithium ION battery: the V860 III weighs in at 18.7oz (530g). For event photographers and those who use on-camera-flash in fast-paced environments, these updates, especially with the low cost, will be more than welcome.
The V860III can be zoomed from 20mm to 200mm so that you can adjust the light beam with ease. This can be done either manually or automatically. The most talked-about feature is the front-facing 2W modeling light which can be adjusted in intensity from 1 to 10. Perhaps the only disappointment with this feature is the position of the lamp — it is on the flash body above the Godox logo, not on the flash head itself. The V860III features TTL, Manual and Multi-flash modes as well as functions like HSS (up to 1/8000 sec), FEC, FEB and second-curtain sync allowing you to fully realise your creativity.The Godox V860III TTL Li-Ion Flash Kit is fully compatible with TTL systems and contains everything you need right out of the box. Firing off a couple of test shots and it’s instantly apparent that this flash has some serious power, and tilting the head up to bounce off the ceiling with the bounce card extracted the fall of illumination from the flash does the job of lighting my subject a couple of metres away. The tilt and bounce have exposured the subject well using the TTL function. Further playing with the flash reveals this flash’s depth of quality. The refresh rate at around 50-75% power is far less than a second, and only after several hours of shooting did that refresh rate start to slow. In most use I didn’t have to wait for the recycle time, it was just primed and ready. Whether shooting in a broad setting or a focused space, the V860IlI will light the objects naturally. Flexible Shooting Angle I’ve concentrated on the new features for this review, as all of the standard features are just as you’d expect from Godox. All versions of the V860 III come with TTL, manual flash, high-speed sync up to 1/8000 second, rear-curtain sync, stroboscopic flash, flash exposure compensation, and autofocus assist beam for low lighting situations.The Godox VING V860III Speedlight Flash is an excellent mid-level hot shoe flash gun that will suit the needs of higher-end enthusiasts and semi-pro photographers.
