Simply net if any trapped shrimps and/fish from bucket and put straight back into their tank, no need to temp match water or anything like that, they’ll be fine to go straight back to tank. I’ve also broken one gravel tube, the threaded male end snapped right off the tube and the plastic compression nut started to disintegrate so the hose kept slipping off it.

This attachment, which clips on the end of the gravel tube, prevented curious fish and shrimp from getting sucked up. It’s because they only make male and female pipe fitting ends in a very few standard sizes, and 5/8″ is not one of them.

Python No Spill Clean and Fill Aquarium Syphon - Gravel

I’m actually building a DIY changer that’s going to end up costing more than a 100′ Python kit, but, with just a shred of luck, my DIY model should last me forever. I don’t have much need to vacuum the gravel in our planted tank and was interested in something smaller that fit the scale of our nano Fluval Spec V. I even went to Graham's plumbers merchants in Enfield (along with three others) and no one has the part to fit my kitchen tap.Make sure to glue this assembly together before you use the shut-off valve as the pressure could blow fittings off and make a mess. Again, with a traditional siphon type water changer, you are stuck either manually dumping buckets of water into your tank or using a pump to move water. When properly used, each and every water changer we tested was more than capable of siphoning water from our test aquarium and filling it up with fresh water from the faucet – without leaks or mess. Mind, this is the only time the gravel tube broke, whereas 3 faucet pumps have bitten the dust in the same length of time. So far, I’m hoping that I can use a brass, threaded, 3/4″ T fitting, all female ends, which I plan to attach to the male end of a brass shut off valve ( exactly the same as what you would use for a garden hose).

I put a valve on it to be able to shut off flow if I want without going all the way back to the faucet. This project isn’t for everyone, but if you like to tinker and want to make a water change system that is just right for you, then go for it. IMPORTANT: Please note, the brass adaptor shown in some photographs of the Python products are found on the US versions only and is not included in the UK version. Fits for most faucets: build-in 3 size adapters that can fits female 15/16-27 thread, 13/16-27 thread or a male 55/64-27 thread, constructed with on/off valve, the valve on the faucet pump can be control water flow direction. You know the routine…Every week filling up large buckets of tank water, trying to carry them through the house, all the while spilling the dirty water all over your floor. For now, I am still using my latest replacement Aqueon faucet pump, but I’m working on fabricating a faucet pump from metal parts that I hope will last much longer. Sure, as a water changer, it’s functional, but based on our testing, we expect that you will need to replace it within a year of regular use. I ask because I will be putting one together to do weekly 80-90% water changes on a 60 gallon pond, and while I ultimately wouldn’t mind retaining my fishies for a few hours while monitoring the fill, a higher fill rate would obviously be better.
