About this deal

Orange peel – for a boost in color and taste, you can stir in some juice from blood oranges if you have any available or the peel from a couple of limes. Red Food Coloring (totally optional), but if you want a darker blood color, then add a few drops of red food coloring for effect! So really, this drink is a Red Russian, made with just two ingredients: vodka and cherry liqueur. If you’re not a big cherry fan, you can also use strawberry schnapps. Blood Bag Tip: Your blood bags drinks would look awesome hanging up on a hook like a real I.V. bag as an alternative to the clear caddy. I placed my fake IV bags in a bowl with the tubing pointed up. It wasn’t very messy this way and I was able to clip them off easily. The bags didn’t tip over and I was able to wait to clip them until all my bags were filled.

Garnish– obviously if you are serving this spooky Halloween punch recipe in a blood bag glass you don’t need a garnish, it is the garnish. If you are serving out of a punch bowl, place some plastic vampire teeth at the top of the glass, or a fresh orange peel will take it to the next level. You might have a few questions before committing to this idea- How do you fill fake blood bags with drinks?Included with my blood bags was a syringe with a very narrow opening that holds 50 millimeters of liquid. That works out to be just under 3 ounces of punch so you’ll need to repeat this process several times to fill up a single blood bag. I found that around 5 times to be just about right so they weren’t overfilled. The gruesome blood bags are so much fun for a spooky season party. They are the perfect scary themed drinks.

I’ve made fake blood in the past. A few years ago I made a fun Halloween popcorn and called it bloody bones popcorn. I realized the same mixture I used to cover the popcorn would also harden and appear like blood and dare I say flesh. Ewww, right? It works great if you are making the popcorn already but it makes a lot and it is very hot so you have to be careful. It also takes a bit more effort to wash so I wanted to come up with the easiest way to make fake blood. Leave to cool, then chill for afew hoursor up to 2 days – the longer you leave it the more intense the flavors.Red chili, left whole but pierced a few times. Skip this ingredient if you want your drink less spicy.

Cool, right? This may have been done before by someone else but I refuse to look that up to find out. I am proud of myself for coming up with the idea and I’d rather live in a bubble where I’m the first one. Garnish– obviously if you are serving this spooky Halloween punch recipe in a blood bag you don’t need a garnish, it is the garnish. If you are serving out of a punch bowl, place some plastic vampire teeth in your glass, or a fresh orange peel. Filling the Blood Bags– We found that each bag takes about 2.5 syringes full of liquid. Snap the clip closed to stop liquid from coming out of the straws. Try not to overfill. Lime Juice– a sour ingredient, as well as a tropical edge to this recipe. Remember, fresh squeezed juice is best! Carbonation– we don’t advise putting any carbonated liquids into the blood bags. If you are serving in a punch bowl, you can add some carbonation like ginger ale, tonic water, orange seltzer, or lemon lime soda to this adult beverage to make it effervescent. When you make this Halloween drink there will be some foam at the top from pouring and the soda. I tried just using juice and this still occurred. The process of filling the blood bags with the syringe will add lots of air into your fake IV bag anyway, so they can’t be avoided by opting for non carbonated drinks. (You might be able to if you added the punch super slowly with the syringe but that would be very time consuming.) Making this blood Halloween punch is very easy! I used a combination of cranberry juice, pineapple juice and lemon lime soda. But you could use any dark red juice such as pomegranate, cherry or fruit punch. Ginger ale would also be a good substituent for the lemon lime soda. I made this a non-alcoholic drink recipe because I wanted it to be kid friendly but you could add vodka if this is for an adults only celebration. This isn’t drinkable blood. It is simply a red punch that works well as a fake blood drink.
