About this deal

Brendon Batson, a former PFA deputy chief executive, said: "He was a great champion of players' rights and conditions and he was integral part of the terms players enjoy now. The pegs in the dressing room were so high that even I had to stand on a bench to hang my clothes up. The first thing you think is, ‘F…in hell, they’ve got some big lads here!’ In just over eight seasons at the Molineux, Dougan made 320 first team appearances for Wolves netting over 120 goals. Usually I've plenty of sympathy for players during those days (pre-1961 maximum wage players who were treated closer to chattel than free workers) but to hand in a transfer request on the morning of the club's most important game for over three decades...it was just wrong. Dougan himself expressed some regret I believe in later years. All he had to do was wait one day...I don't see how that act can be defended. In the end he stayed for an extra year at Rovers anyway and didn't move on until 1961. If I remember correctly I believe Dougan also challenged all things in football...he was a fighter...I remember reading about him challenging doctors and physicians. For this he got a reputation as a difficult player. Ultimately though he was the one proved right as he suffered many ailments after retiring. Rather a pyrrhic victory that one.

Derek Dougan to enter Wolves hall of fame - BBC News

In spite of the goal being chalked off, as full-time approached it looked as though Millwall would hold on. But in the 89th minute Wolves were awarded a penalty. With regular penalty taker Terry Wharton out, the task fell to Dave Wagstaffe.Dougan scored over 120 goals for Wolverhampton Wanderers and was in their victorious 1974 League Cup side. I became a big fan of The Doogs thereafter and i am still collecting memorabilia to this day ,a love afair that has lasted over fifty years.

Derek Dougan Psychedelic footballer – the secret life of Derek Dougan

Ronnie Allen’s Wolves were into the final stretch of their successful 1966-67 Second Division promotion journey when they set off for the clash with Millwall at the Londoners’ old Den ground. We need some people who can actually talk lucidly about football,’ had been the guiding principle of Bromley, who changed his mind about using his panellists individually and opted instead to throw them all on screen at once. ‘Crerand and Allison were the baddies,’ he added, ‘and the charming Dougan with the lovely McNab were the goodies. They became folk heroes in four weeks.’ In the second half the home team netted again but on this occasion the referee was brave enough to disallow it. Young keeper Phil Parkes, who had only recently broken into the Wolves first team, recalls the atmosphere to this day at Milwall’s old ground just off the Old Kent Road, surrounded by streets of terraced houses.
