About this deal

You haven’t heard from him? Do you know where he lives? You don’t even have a telephone number? Then how will you find him? Now don’t cry, I was only asking a question. Of course you will find him, even though Port Clement is a city of seventeen million people and he has no idea you’re coming. Why are you crying again? Here I am trying to cheer you up and I only make things worse! My problem, Isabella, is I speak before I think. My mother—a marvelous woman—was very critical of this flaw of mine. Forgive me.”

Ab und an ein Kinderbuch muss auch mal sein, wenn man ein wenig leichtere Kost haben will. Und "Das Buch der gestohlenen Träume" war eine schöne, magische Geschichte, die durchaus sehr leicht von der Hand ging. Letta is a Wordsmith: responsible for handing out words to people who need them, she has never questioned why language is rationed. This post-apocalyptic thriller is full of jeopardy, nail-biting tension and some profound themes. There are many things I'd love to revisit, one of which is a secret in the book which I can't divulge at this particular moment…The story raises a lot of questions around leadership; are you concerned for how our world is currently being lead? The Book of Stolen Dreams centres around the plight of two siblings, Rachel and Robert. All books have a certain magic, but the Book of Stolen Dreams is like no other - this book has the power to grant eternal life. Rachel and Robert live in an oppressed city, ruled by an evil dictator, who is unquestionably the best-named baddy that I’ve encountered in a long time - Charles Malstain. Charles Malstain is terminally ill. His reign of terror is coming to an end. And - like all narcissistic bad guys - death is not an option for Mr Malstain. He is desperate to get his hands on the Book of Stolen Dreams so that he can avoid death and continue to rule Krasnia. However, Rachel, Robert and their father, Felix, have different plans. They sneak into the library and steal the book. Unfortunately for Rachel and Robert, their father is captured and imprisoned, leaving them as sole protectors of the book. I received a gifted copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via the publishers and Kaleidoscopic book tours.

Thank you to Usborne Publishing an Netgalley for the review copy in exchange for an honest review. This does not change my opinion in anyway It's lovely to see a book, and a library, at the heart of the story - but why did you decide to focus the events on books, and reading? As a screenwriter, whether it's for plays or films or TV, you're endlessly writing dialogue that will only be read by your colleagues. In novels there's only you. But in screenplays you write very much from a point of view so I used this to begin by writing from Rachel's point of view and kept at it. The two main characters, Rachel and Robert, each have important parts to play in the hunt for the secret of the book, but it is Rachel who really steals the show. With a big heart and courage to match, she has a strong sense of justice and the importance to fight for what is right, even when the cost may seem to be too great to bear. We don’t know why this has happened, but Farr immediately sets up a tense and unsettling atmosphere. We are introduced to our protagonists, Robert and Rachel Klein, when they accompany their father to the lending library where he works. This journey is done at night, and nobody is told about it so we know it is dangerous. All we know is that it has something to do with The Book of Stolen Dreams that Felix Klein steals - rumours are that it is scheduled to be destroyed - and charges his children with protecting until they can hand it over to a man called Solomon.

Can they escape that fate, find out the secret of the book they keep hidden and keep it out of evil dictator Malstain’s hands? Meeting a wonderful cast of characters along the way – some good, some bad – they set off on individual journeys across the land to escape Malstain’s reach. How did the world develop for Krasnia - did you have any ground rules? Which part would you like to visit, if you could? I really enjoyed the book because it was dramatic and always referred to the past, which gives the reader more information about Rachel. This helped us understand her as a character and to understand the story more.... Read Full Review
