About this deal

I enjoyed this book the most because we knew Venetia's story before Adam Dalgleish, I have said before PD James's books can be difficult to follow but this made it easier. James’s latest mystery is set in 1803 and picks up where Jane Austen’s beloved Pride and Prejudice left off: Mr. Police officers are shown wearing their full blue serge uniforms and even overcoats, whereas at that time it was so hot they were allowed to wear shirtsleeves and dispense with their heavy tunics.

Can you be confident that it wasn't some other young man leaving the house that night, someone of roughly the same age and the same height? Instead he gave the impression of a man accustomed to public exposure, a young princeling at a public entertainment, to be endured rather than enjoyed, attended by his lords. And as Commander Adam Dalgliesh of Scotland Yard attempts to make sense of events, the murders continue, inexorably spiraling into fresh complexities of horror. This booked with loads of possible suspects and I really enjoyed the twist with Ashe, a big five stars from me.

It had been a disagreement rather than a violent quarrel, but she had been drunk and he had thought it wise to get away, to walk alone through the night to think out whether it was time for him to move on. In 2000 she celebrated her eightieth birthday and published her autobiography, Time to Be in Earnest. The story itself was well constructed but the characters (other than Dalgleish) were unsympathetic and fairly one dimensional.I have never tried this author before because I read her books about the death at pemberly on my kindle a while ago and did not think it very good.

Scully looked at him with the anxiety of a guilty child who knows that she has disappointed the grown-ups. When however the prime suspect dies, the story takes a different turn, making it even more complex and puzzling.

In 1811, London's East End was the scene of a series of murders so brutal and irrational that they caused panic throughout the city, which lacked a central police force.
