About this deal

We tried setting it up by inserting bottom poles first and also by doing the top poles first and found it possible to assemble both ways, although easier if the top poles go first. The frame of the chair is made up of some different size and shape poles so it took a little getting use to. We found the hubless pole design on the Big Agnes Big Six to be great for reducing bulk and increasing stability, but it does mean the setup requires a bit more focus than poles that spring into place mostly on their own. The Skyline trail serves as a year-round trail easily accessed by the Sanctuary neighborhood on the mountain-side of Steamboat proper.

We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. We prefer a deeper seat that lets us recline and relax, like the one found on our favorite model, the Big Agnes Skyline UL, and the luxurious Big Agnes Big Six. The shape of the seat fabric cups your rear with a nice deep pocket that keeps you firmly planted while relaxing. The aluminium pre-bent poles make it wider and more stable while in use, and the rip-stop Nylon 70d Robic™ yarns with a waterproof coating are extremely strong yet soft for enhanced support and comfort. Sometimes we may be willing to learn how to operate a more complicated piece of gear when the benefits balance out the struggle, but often we want to be able to pick it up and have it work. The Skyline UL is made for those looking to kick back after a day on the trail and soak in the view without the weight penalty of heavier camp chairs. The stool employs lightweight, durable shock-corded aluminum poles and high-tenacity 70D Robic yarn.

If you don't mind a bit of extra weight, this model offers unmatched comfort wrapped up in a reasonably small travel size. Why not have a quick read of our latest article about Big Agnes Tents and Camping Accessories to help you get the most out of your next adventure. No other chair has the size to accommodate the extra bulk nor the headrest to let you lay back and watch the next climber. The backrest of this chair is a bit lower than ideal, coming in just under the shoulder blades of our 5'8" tester.

While this chair in its stuff sack makes a longer bundle than most backpacking chairs at 17 inches long, it also comes in nice and narrow at only 3. Both are easily packable on a long-distance backpacking trip and fit neatly into a water bottle side pocket. We are nitpicking here because we want you to have all the info, but overall, the Skyline is almost as quick and easy to set up as the other models that scored higher. There are other chairs in this review that are lighter, but this one is by far the best combination of comfort and weight. We considered both the relative weight of each chair compared to models of the same design (foam or tent style), as well as how it stacked up against every product we tested. We found four distinct sub-categories within our review; the "tent-style" chairs with legs that sit up off the ground, sit pads (totally unfancy foam rectangles), taco-style models that fold open like a taco, and the twist style, which has legs that pivot around a central axis (e. Weighing in at under 800 g (yes, really) and with a tiny pack size, it’s one of the lightest and most portable backpacking chairs around. The Skyline UL Chair packs small, assembles quickly, and gives you the comfort you need to enjoy the backcountry spot you worked so hard to get to. Its weight of 29 ounces is a full 10 ounces heavier than some of the ultralight models, but our testers reached for this model more often than its featherweight counterparts.

While it isn't the tallest chair we tried, it sits a full 2 inches higher than the ultralight models. If you are going to plop down in a backpacking chair with a full rack still attached, the Big Six is the one to do it in! With a weight of over 750g, I’m not sure I’d actually take this chair on a backpacking trip – maybe to a bothy or a short overnight. This one-pound(ish) stool is big on the comfort that you'll really appreciate when you're not sitting in the dirt.We love that some of the Helinox models include picture directions printed on the chairs, making your first setup as easy as your fifteenth. The overall shape of the Skyline is similar to many in this review, but the rear legs have a unique curve at the bottom, broadening the base. We do not warranty products damaged from normal wear and tear, alteration made by owner, misuse, accidents, or damages caused by uses other than intended. While many others are shallow and cause the sitter to slide down precariously, the Skyline is deep enough to truly relax in. Despite its heavy weight, the Crazy Creek PowerLounger does have a compression strap just for this purpose and is very convenient to roll up.
