I, on the other hand, chose to embrace a more passive approach, trying to work with those we encountered and only lashed out when I felt wronged. The foes have tracker tiles to make this easy and the amount of vitality each possesses scales based on the number of heroes. We had the opportunity to test out the death system first hand, which allows players to continue contributing to the game as a ghost once your health has dropped to zero. You have traveled the dangerous byways of Kremel, and finally walk past the gates of the town at twilight.Characters have their own branching ability tree they will unlock as they level up, but even more interesting, each character has a special set of things they can do when visiting towns that is unique to that class of character.

I like this house rule because I don't want to burn through all the road event cards too fast, and it avoids the tedium of getting too many skirmish battles. The base game comes with 6 stories with 2 or 3 chapters each (each chapter is a solid gaming session).

These archetypes also have two different paths you can select which, in reality, expands your choices to twelve characters. This expansion adds a deck of cards to the game that are physical representations of the character-specific, text-only items, weapons, and companions that could be acquired via town services and other means. There are so many fiddly little rules that even if the rules were better written, I suspect I would still get some things wrong from time to time. I’m not flipping out (or losing my head like the gargoyle) simply because A) this was a review copy kindly provided to me by the good folks at GreenBrier and B) I’m not the sort of person who goes bug nuts about something like that.
