I've dropped one star simply because it needed more editing, there are wrong words in a few places but other than that an enjoyable read and I look forward to read the second Grimm up North! A well put together plot that leads in many different directions, as I said before DCI Harry Grimm really does grow on you as you turn the pages. Stevens had suspended her from school for assaulting her bully, and her mother had banished from meeting her boyfriend.
The Testament of Yves Gundron is an impressive work of imagination, bewitching, pertinent and yet, like the best parables, seemingly timeless. Harry Grimm is a great character with an interesting back story and a crime series set in the Yorkshire Dales is a nice change.Another thing that I liked about the book was the author's description of the Yorkshire Dales, a beautiful place. Harry has been looking for their abusive, murderous father ever since, and it is an obsession for him. If I could improve anything about it, I would change it so it could explain the first three books more just in case someone hadn’t read them. I am hoping book number five is coming sometime soon, I really will need a Harry Grimm fix in the near future.
Gatward’s Harry Grimm books are not great literature, but they’re entertaining “English rural” police stories. Harry Grimm has a face that literally scares people – due to an IUD explosion during his service as a paratrooper. One person admitted a crime and suddenly somehow another person knew about it and wanted to take revenge.
Because his latest work is set in a shooting lodge in Yorkshire, his agent (and former lover) has set up a “shooting” (clay pigeons) weekend in the area.
