There were significant chunks when I had no idea what was happening - now that could be because my gears are slipping because I am really, really old, although not quite as old as Terrence (that'll serve to test whether he really reads my reviews).

Some of the events obviously follow on from the previous book but I don’t feel like I missed out on any information.

The ending is particularly satisfying and I am now waiting for the next instalment from the pen of Mr Nesbo. Maybe involve Oleg, who for some reason has minimal involvement but could be the new hero for future books? He befriends an elderly woman as a drinking buddy, but it turns out that she owes loan sharks from Mexico nearly one million dollars.Despite its 500+ page length, it’s an absolute page-turner, and I was constantly excited to pick it back up again. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. There are a number of suspects, people of dubious character and varying degree of enthusiasm and, dare I say, obsession, that we meet over the course of the book, the author doing a grand job of deflecting suspicion from the obvious and making out attention flit from one to the other at a great pace of knots.

When fellow student Tom goes missing no one believes the strange and horrifying tale that Richard tells, except for Karen. Yes, as with all books mid to late series, you have to accept that there will be some spoilers along the way. Struck off the force, and down-and-out in Los Angeles, it seems that nothing can entice him back to Oslo.Almost a decade ago, Jo revealed sitting at his imported desk made writing feel like work and he preferred to pen his stories in hotel lobbies or airport lounges.

I wanted Harry Hole to come stumbling out of the bar in Los Angeles, blinded by the sunlight and shocked back into the real world. For my money, the best novels are The Snowman, The Leopard, and Police, but Police kicked all their asses. The project fell through and Lucille can't pay back the lenders - mobsters who threaten to kill her.
