About this deal

Compare this to games with rulebooks going on for hundreds of pages and you can immediately see the appeal. Lang and Michael Shinall, A Song of Ice and Fire: Tabletop Miniatures Game features five different Game Modes, Army Building and Customization options, and choices of Commanders and Attachments.

The line is a result of an incredibly successful kickstarter back in 2017 which amassed almost USD 1,7 million. The Outriders are cavalry, meaning that they benefit from free maneuvering and can retreat from melee with impunity. The fact that it has six different starter sets (and more than 60 expansions to support them) is rather telling.

p>House Stark is known for their stalwart nature and cautious preparation for when winter will come again.

Players decide the type of game they wish to play; there are currently eight different types of scenarios available. The unit performs one action from those available for its type, and the opponent gets a chance to react to it via card-play, abilities etc.

Players can pick from numerous factions such as the Starks, Baratheon’s and Lannister’s as well as having access to neutral mercenary troops which makes up some of the smaller factions such as the Boltons and the Bloody Mummers. The armies have character, you can build your own force based on your favourite faction and there is a lot of support for it with an active tournament scene. Also cards will have changed and depending on how you want to play they would require and update – not imperative and not something you would need immediately. Meanwhile, characters like Jaime, Cersei, and Tyrion Lannister, along with "The Mountain that Rides" Gregor Clegane alter the battlefield in their own way. However, with the death of Robert Baratheon and imprisonment of Ned Stark, the Direwolf has mobilized for war. Easy where it needs to be, more complex and intriguing the more one invests in it, it succeeds in both game design as well as the aesthetics of the enormous franchise behind it. A sideboard to the main battle with five slots that when claimed give a bonus such as healing a regiment or forcing an enemy unit to roll a panic test.
