The VibroLabs have better control in the upper mids/lower treble and also have a slightly more detailed tone and timbre. Beautiful walnut earcups with a gorgeous matte grain finish are the focal point of this headphone, and the gold/brass accents at key stress points make for a very visually appealing product. It’s an interesting and lightweight system that contrasts intriguingly with the usual expanding, telescopic headphone system.

And most important of all, the Meze 99 Classics will perform its magic with smartphones, computers, DAC-dongles, DAC/Amps, DAPs, etc. Top marks to Meze for making such an outstanding comeback, switching to in-house development, and really creating something quite special. There does seem to be some downward pressure developing on the top of the ear and around the ear lobes a few mm in extra length would make all the difference. So now you know the backstory of my relationship with Meze, let’s get on with this review of the 99 Classics.The basic construction is mainly composed of metal and wood, which might make you think this is heavy, but you’d be wrong. The company offers a few different color options, but the walnut and gold were the most eye-catching to us. Not content with award-winning sound and style, the 99 Classics come with a class-leading range of accessories. I liked that they are dual entry cables (one each to the left and right earcups), as I feel this gives a better balance and overall aesthetic look. Instrument separation could be a little better, just like the separation (it's not foggy but not spot-on sharp and exact either).

Treble extension and detail is good but loses some air in the top end resulting in a more mellow, less energetic treble.I have to salute whoever created this design from an aesthetical standpoint alone; they are one of the best-looking headphones I have tried to date. Along with a two year warranty, Meze guarantee that the 99's are serviceable if any parts would ever need to be replaced, because they built these headphones to last.
