About this deal

The mode delivers a stable viewfinder image, and allows a continuous shooting frame rate similar to those that are achievable when VR is turned off. If you are a wildlife photographer on a budget, you will not want to miss these articles where I provide in-depth reviews about some of the most affordable Nikon cameras and lenses on the market. I carried the lens with me in the car while driving through pretty dusty roads of Joshua Tree NP and Death Valley NP and it did not seem to attract too much dust.

aperture enables comfortable speed and smooth control over depth of field across the entire zoom range. it does what it says on the tin, it's cropping the image by what a full frame sensor would see at that focal length. The 500 PF definitely has better IQ than the 200-500, but the small weight is a huge plus compared to the zoom. While it's suitable for capturing subjects that aren't moving quickly, it may struggle with acquiring focus on fast-moving subjects, leading to missed moments you may have gotten with other lenses.

The image from the 200-500mm gets only slightly larger as focussed more closely; maybe 10% from one end of the focus scale to the other. That works for the most part but it can sometimes be difficult to keep a good grip on the barrel, especially with gloves on.

While this new collar is still not perfect, it is probably the stiffest of the tripod collars Nikon has produced in quite some time on the non-exotic lenses. This E-type lens (Electronic diaphragm) will work with the following cameras (you can change the lens aperture on these camera bodies): D5,D500, D4,D4S, D3, D3s , Df, D850, D810, D810A, D800, D750, D700, D610, D600, D300, D7500, D7200, D7100, D7000, D5600, D5500, D5300, D5200, D5100, D5000, D3400, D3300, D3200, D3100. ED glass counters chromatic aberration for images with vivid colour and perfectly rendered contrast all the way to the edge of the frame. With an equivalent field of view of 300-750mm and the capability to shoot fast action at up to 10 frames per second on the D500, the Nikon 200-500mm f/5. m), it provides an unparalleled opportunity to capture stunning images of elusive wildlife up close and personal.Weight-wise, it is probably more appropriate to compare it to Sigma’s Sport version of the 150-600mm lens, which is 560 grams heavier in comparison. The good news is, the rear of the lens is somewhat protected with a non-moving optical element, so you should not need to worry about too much dust making its way into the lens from the mount / camera side. Overall I’d characterize the 200-500mm as being quite good in focus performance, but watch your handling, as you can compromise that performance quite a bit, and avoid TCs. Focal length: Although 300mm is a viable option for wildlife photography, having more focal length is generally better for getting closer to your subjects. However, don't let these limitations deter you from experimenting with different compositions, lighting scenarios, and more.

This value is achieved when attached to an FX-format digital SLR camera, with zoom set at the maximum telephoto position. The Nikon Z9 is currently the only Nikon mirrorless camera that performs similarly (actually better) in this area. This difference tremendously impacts the versatility and usefulness of the Nikon 200-500 in the field if you can get very close to your subjects. The Electromagnetic diaphragm (E) operates in sync with the fastest shutter speeds and frame rates, even when using an optional teleconverter. Accuracy still seems excellent, but tracking is only fair and initial focus speed is not good enough for fast moving subjects. Full-frame (FX) cameras, crop-sensor ( DX ) DSLR cameras and Nikon mirrorless cameras (Optional FTZ mount adapter required) are compatible with the lens.
