About this deal

With sturdy flaps on every spread and rhyming stories that are a joy to read aloud, Cat’s Cookbook joins the bestselling Tales from Acorn Wood which have been delighting parents and children for over twenty years.

Further books illustrated by Axel include Room on the Broom, Stick Man, Zog and The Smeds and the Smoos – all of which have been made into much-loved animated films by Magic Light Pictures. Lift the flaps and join in the fun with Cat's Cookbook, a new story in the bestselling Tales from Acorn Wood preschool series by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, creators of The Gruffalo. I really like these books, short and rhyming with lovely illustrations and ‘flaps’ for your little one to faff with and enjoy. One of my television songs, A Squash and a Squeeze, was made into a book in 1993, with illustrations by the wonderful Axel Scheffler.uk will use the information you provide on this form to be in touch with you and to provide updates and marketing. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. The stories are on the simpler side (perhaps even a little boring for adults/older children) but I think this is where the books stand out for their specialism for babies and younger toddlers.

My daughter has thoroughly enjoyed this book and all of the other books in the Tales of Acorn Wood series since she was about 8 months old. Julia Donaldson has written some of the world's best-loved children's books, including modern classics The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo's Child , which together have sold over 25 million copies worldwide and have been translated into over one hundred languages. Lift the flaps and join in the fun with Cat's Cookbook, a story in the bestselling Tales from Acorn Wood preschool series by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, creators of The Gruffalo. With sturdy flaps on every spread and rhyming stories that are a joy to read aloud, Cat’s Cookbook joins the first four stories in the bestselling Tales from Acorn Wood series, Fox’s Socks, Postman Bear, Rabbit’s Nap and Hide-and-Seek Pig, which have been delighting parents and children for over twenty years.I brought the whole collection of the books but I think this one is my favourite- the only downside is they’re annoyingly catchy and memorable so I end up wandering round saying the words which really just sums up maternity leave life lol!

A slight shame about this book and the other books in the series is that some of the flaps are very small, and therefore fragile. My novel The Giants and the Joneses is going to be made into a film by the same team who made the Harry Potter movies, and I have written three books of stories about the anarchic Princess Mirror-Belle who appears from the mirror and disrupts the life of an otherwise ordinary eight-year-old. Many story books are a bit more advanced for this age group and many books designed for this age group seem to be centred around non-fiction (in our experience), so we really have enjoyed collecting them all - I will always treasure them as the first stories and series my daughter has been interested in.

Her other books include Room on the Broom, Stick Man and Zog, illustrated by Axel Scheffle r, The Hospital Dog , illustrated by Sara Ogilvie and the hugely successful What the Ladybird Heard adventures, illustrated by Lydia Monks.
