I would highly recommend this volume to someone who is interested in sweet BL with a slice of life flavor and a high school backdrop, but please brace yourself for the aforementioned sexual harassment of a minor. Doukyuusei can be read as a stand-alone, but to fully appreciate this story you should read Sotsugyousei and O. And while I don’t partake as often as I used to, don’t be surprised to find me poking around an anime or manga every once in a while either. Gifs from the film Doukyuusei have been following me around for so long that I finally decided to give in and watch it, despite my trepidations about the yaoi/BL genre. Time leaps are pretty poorly written, and, overall, piecing out how events take place is more a matter of figuring it out from characters' conversations than actually seeing them happen.

I will not disregard the fact that it felt like the story could've been more than it was, if you shake it up a bit and flesh it all out, but I feel that Nakamura-sensei made it like that so we DO actually feel the bottled-up soda pop of love that Kusakabe and Sajou-kun are experiencing. Despite not being particularly jaw-dropping or amazing, it's definitely a stellar manga for a genre rife with cliches and general unpleasantness. the only problem i have with the manga is with harasen, he really had no business being that close to his students. The only part of the story that I didn't like was the teacher loving Rihito, which rubbed me the wrong way.

However, very rarely, at least for me personally, do I stumble upon a BL that makes me cry and feel so attached to it's story and characters. Mangaka Asumiko Nakamura's other works will also be allowed expression as part of the Doukyuusei-Classmates world. In this lovely, pure and poetic manga Asumiko Nakamura perfectly depicts young love and its everyday special moments. It makes sense given his natural inclination toward introversion, after all, and it's not as if he's completely against his relationship with his classmate. Nakamura Asumiko, known as an author of many stories with cognitive storylines, once again breathes new life into the shounen ai genre with her replenishing and distinctive art.

As Doukyuusei takes place in Tokyo, I’m going to assume that they’re one of the cities with these laws in practice.

Actually the mother to be is none other than his classmate Imai Yuka: a girl who he saw naked in his house one morning, and who is father is remarrying. As they deal with each situation, you feel them grow and develop as both individuals and as a couple. There’s always going to be a romanticized trope of students falling in love with teachers and living happily ever after, but it doesn’t change the fact that the trope is still potentially harmful, especially when there are no repercussions shown for these actions.
