About this deal

They all have the same basic shape: a round housing with a nozzle and maybe an ear hook thrown in, but the Etymotic ER2SE sticks out, literally, due to its tube-like housings. In general I'd say I enjoy the sound of the 2XR over the 2SE (I like bass and they're pretty close to identical in every other way), so I'll focus my impressions on those.

Isolation is excellent for non-noise canceling earbuds, with low frequencies sounding one-quarter as loud as they otherwise would. The tiny ER•4p’s featured extremely slim cylindrical earpieces fitted, in most cases, with Etymotic’s signature triple-flange silicone ear tips. This contains a netted pocket for securing any of the ear tips or whatever else you want to toss in there. The new: for the first time in quite a while, Etymotic has abandoned its tradition of using balanced-armature (BA) drivers and switched to a single dynamic driver. If you’re not familiar with Etymotic IEMs, you can find the insertion instructions here: https://www. So both the Etymotic ER2SE and ER4SR are tuned to the same target, and thus they sound very similar, when compared to other products.

Based on how the filters were built I always thought it was referring to the resistance presented by the mesh layer protecting the diaphragm from ear gunk— a less dense mesh would mean that the diaphragm is able to move more freely and possibly resolve more low level information and textures at the expense of less damping, likely more elevated treble; conversely a denser mesh may offer more resistance, darkening the signature at the expense of smoothing over textures and tamping down low level information. Don't get me wrong - they were great in their own ways - but I know better now to trust my ears and corroborate with measurements/other impressions. Tuned in the same neutral house signature, the dynamic drivers in ER2SE give us a little peek into the character and nature of the moving coil dynamic driver.

Even if you can finagle your 1/2" mic into your coupler, you're going to have to do an awful lot of work to calibrate its internal volume and transfer impedance to make it match a proper 711 coupler. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. The ER2XR offers Etymotic’s renowned isolation featuring a variety of ear tips to provide 35dB+ of noise reduction so you will hear the detail buried in the mix without raising the volume to compensate for ambient noise . If the look fo the earbud doesn’t immediately charm you, perhaps the sound quality is enough to change your tune. They were not hot or sibilant in any way, and would be good for long listening sessions without being fatigued.
