About this deal

And let us be honest: cute woodland critters hitching a ride on a regal white wolf who has wandered from the frozen tundra is a pretty enticing proposition, at least in my book. I was convinced that Grim was going to drive us to our deaths, but by some miracle we survived the frigid road of the Bellsong Trail, and then the treacherous climb up the tower of Stormvale. While I think Spirecrest is the most complex of the expansions, I don’t think it is that much more burdensome than Pearlbrook, and I wouldn’t say the additional complexity is substantial. Five full-scale expansions have come to the market, as well as a substantial handful of smaller modular options, culminating in the multi-million dollar Kickstarter campaign that delivered the Complete Collection in one massive twenty-pound box this autumn. For example, when preparing for the next season, you can leave the one named Stubblehoof where he or she is, and instead activate the location again, plus draw a card and any resource.

Spirecrest is an expansive and challenging expansion, sure to surprise and delight even the most seasoned of Everdell players. It takes courage to venture forth into the unknown and you are most definitely a brave rabbit, ready to carve a name for yourself by mounting an expedition through the mountainous regions of Spirecrest! One of my favourite parts of the original expansion are the adornment cards that cost pearls and give players various asymmetric bonuses. Depending on how many resources the tile will cost, the victory points can range from two to six points on each tile. We then moved to Spring and the Weather Card stated that at all locations we had to take one less resource or card.Instead of a mountain goat, two bears were put in ((((It's a shame to pay for the collector's edition of the game and find such a discord in the box. Newleaf comes in as the prize of the boxed expansions because it so capably amplifies the world of Everdell and all its charm. They are large and awkward, and they obscure the game materials that normally stand out so well just sitting on the table. Starting with the first map tile to the right of the Everdell Valley tile, the player has an option to pay the resource cost(s) printed on the map piece, if able or willing they then move the rabbit token one step to the right repeating the same procedure.

Your Traveller will start their adventure in the Foothills region of the mountain board, from there the brave little rabbit will trek across the various provinces of the board whilst collecting map pieces that are needed to undertake the final Expedition at the end of the game. The standard expansion ships with five of these Big Critter: Stubblehoof the moose, Honeypaw the bear, King Rhun the mountain goat, Whisper the wolf, and Windlore the eagle. Wilson has designed the solo mode to provide the player with tangible options to manage Rugwort, as opposed to Pearlbrook where I always felt handcuffed and limited when trying to carve out a strategy for myself. There are 34 other Discovery Cards (28 in the standard expansion edition and six in the Collector’s Edition) that might make an appearance and have nothing to do with the Big Critters. I love when a board game or expansion manages to exceed one’s expectations and Spirecrest does this in spades.

If you take a Big Critter, you put a saddle on them, put a worker on that, and then the Big Critter replaces your worker. But this is Everdell, the ridiculous production values and mega cutesy components are an integral part of the experience, so bring them on I say! To me, this is not a substantial increase when compared to the retail equivalent that comes with 33 Discovery cards and five Big Critters. In practice, this amounts to the rodent taking the map tile that you did not choose during the Chart steps of each area on the Spirecrest board. As long as I don’t turn that one upside down, it’s a perfect solution that affords me the space to load the base game insert with my favorite modular bits.
