I won't delve to much on the plot as to not ruin it for others but I will say that this was a book that was a great page turner and every character held my interest to know more about them, it was great to read a story that showed the life of a girl that had a much loved but hard life in poverty and the struggles that she had to go through. I have been in a reading slump for sometime and this, for some reason just hit all my buttons and just the right way.

From the different creatures, to all the land, islands and laws, I felt like I could clearly imagine it all right in front of me. He's mysterious, strong, caring and protective but with a darker side that will do what it takes to protect his people. But what really was the nail in the coffin was our FMC poking the CLOACA of a bird statue and not being able to tell if the crow checking out her naked body was a man because it didn’t have any genitalia. I must admit that I’m a bit lost with all the characters, often we get 2 different spellings of the same person’s name (in the different languages), which isn’t helping my cause, I think I’d really benefit from a family tree. Fallon's world becomes a whole lot bigger when she is presented with the opportunity to find and collect iron crows to overthrow the current monarch (Dante's unlikeable brother) and crown Dante as King of Luce- while also ensuring a throne for herself.I really enjoyed her back and forth banter with morrgot which was highly amusing but showed a bond forming that made me smile throughout-I loved that she was true to herself and although she had character growth I loved that she did not change who she was as a person, i cannot wait to read the next installment.

Not for lack of trying, the men of Luce pale in comparison to Dante Regio- brother of the King and childhood first kiss to Fallon. It only just now started to start (which with how bored I already am is just too late in the book for me) The people she surrounds herself with, for the most part, either have an attitude toward her or are just plain mean or boring. His back and forth sass with Fallon during their time together was honestly just heartwarming, it was very clear that this relationship was the driving force behind her growth throughout the book.Known as the “serpent charmer”, everyone stays on edge wondering what if she truly has powers, even though she says otherwise. That’s why I think the next installment will be better than this one— because we hopefully won’t have any more unnecessary love triangles (which, as we all know, I absolutely hate lol). And that ending paragraph made me very excited to dive into the second book, I want to see how his relationship with Fallon and his comeback as king take place. I've always loved the fantasy genre since I was very young, but not many authors can bring a whole new, different world to life combining it's differing cultures, laws and history, with magic, prophecy and a new language with so much depth, that I can see it clearly as I read.

i think some more editing revisions could have tighten up the narrative and fixed the pacing issues in the places where it feels slow.I had a lot of questions about the Shabbins and felt like I was missing something throughout this novel (this changed after I read book two! While I grew to love aspects of our FMC, Fallon, her obsession with the cringy Dante throughout the book even after she set out on her adventure with Mórrgaht was getting under my skin. With an exciting, action packed ending, I cannot wait for more of the crows and whether the Fae and crows can learn to live together, but especially I need more Lore and Fallon, as she learns more truths about her origins and the prophecy. And I don’t even wanna touch on the whole love triangle situation because it infuriated me like nothing else I have ever experienced.
