We tested HS5 and HS8 before, so we were curious to see what kind of sound HS7 provides compared to the HS8 model. Rear porting cuts down on port noise but it does mean the speakers shouldn't be placed too near a wall as the ports may be obscured, upsetting the bass response. Unlike studio monitors with added bass or treble frequencies which may sound more flattering at first, HS Series speakers were designed to give you the most honest, precise reference possible, providing an ideal sonic platform to build on throughout the mixing process. Teamed with the sub, the HS7s integrate well using the default 100Hz crossover setting, though I found myself adjusting the sub's contribution down slightly from the detented setting. The HS8S is impressive for its size, and can help in larger rooms or even smaller spaces where optimum monitor placement isn't possible.
