About this deal

My non technological brain fought against the very notion … however, the originality of the storyline, paired with brilliant writing, won me over. Nehezen tudok többet írni úgy, hogy ne mondjak semmit, ezért most abba is hagyom, és csak annyit mondok, hogy számomra az év egyik legjobb könyve volt.

How to be empathetic when necessary – there are emotions and reactions that Lock needs to learn to be a complete success. Although I solved the case very early, I still found myself engrossed in the story and blazing through it like Usain Bolt at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. But when the two missing persons cold cases they are reviewing suddenly become active, Lock is the only one who can help Kat when the case gets personal.

I thought I might struggle with this original AI concept but it did not seem implausible, and I wasn’t bamboozled by any major technical gobbledegook. But when the two missing person’s cold cases they are reviewing suddenly become active, Lock is the only one who can help Kat when the case gets personal.Sorry to go all philosophical on you guys, but good on the author for tackling such a controversial, moral, and ethical issue, and incorporating it into a police environment in the novel way that she did. The purpose is to learn and evaluate the pros and cons of how AIDE's can support police work, with the worry that this might lead to cuts in police numbers. Unexpectedly the investigation’s into the current whereabouts of university student Tyrone Walters and wanna be actor Will Robinson converge when the team discovers a sinister link in their disappearances.

For decades we’ve had people who believe their favourite TV/movie/book/video game character is real, and fail to distinguish the actor from the character – how will these people react to AI when it looks and acts so lifelike? In The Blink of An Eye explores the potential future of technology with an in-depth, unforgettable look at grief and humanity, and how surprisingly, one can aide the other. After much discussion, the team take up two missing person cold cases, conscientious student Tyrone Walters and would be actor Will Robinson. A rare crime novel truly as much about character as it is about plot…cried at the ending…huge potential series exploring the human AI connection. And to be honest, I think an AI friend/companion would be enough for some people – imagine a friend without all the drama and emotional baggage, and as my premise of the novel mentions, bias and prejudice? The story also explores love, loss and grief and the impact of bereavement on different characters in the book, again beautifully written and depicted. I am not certain there will be a sequel, but I really hope there will be, I really loved the relationship dynamics between Lock and Kat. During their meeting, McLeish informs her that he wants her to lead a pilot group working with AIDEs (Artificially Intelligent Detecting Entities) to solve cold cases. There’s such a thought-provoking consideration of morality threaded through as the catalyst for the narrative so that even when In the Blink of an Eye is finished, it resonates and unsettles the reader.

I am hoping for the latter as I loved Kat as well as getting to know the team and would be great to see more of them. Given everything, I had legit zero expectations reading this book, but I found myself gobbling this up like a Thanksgiving dinner. But when the two missing person's cold cases they are reviewing suddenly become active, Lock is the only one who can help Kat when the case gets personal.

After twenty-five years on the force, Frank had thought she'd seen it all, but never in a million years did she think she'd be using a bunch of algorithms, which came from of a virtual presence, to solve crimes. A fresh and intriguing detective double act – I fell hard for all-too-human Kat and her AI colleague Lock . Picked to lead a pilot programme that has her paired with AIDE (Artificially Intelligent Detective Entity) Lock, Kat's instincts come up against Lock's logic.
