About this deal

Indeed, at times it looks more like OLED than LCD – red and blue primaries are deep and lush. Leading Hollywood colourist Stefan Sonnenfeld has handled the final tuning for the set, undoubtedly contributing to the filmic solidity to its images. The introduction of the new HCX Pro AI processor in Panasonic’s higher-end sets means that Panasonic has now brought its previous generation HCX processor down to core models such as the JX800 series. So now even these sets will have access to the vast wealth of Panasonic colour science expertise.

Last year Panasonic TVs were missing several key streaming apps at launch, and despite updates, Disney+ still won’t be included in 2021, although Panasonic says it is “in discussions” with Disney to rectify this. Smart TV functions is another fun item on this TV. The remote comes with a Netflix button which is the way to go #makes you wonder how they originally let this TV out without the Netflix 4K option#. Software patch is out and fixes this. Still working on how that should be configured #honestly, not seeing a huge difference vs. HBO or other shows#. There’s a ton of other smart features, but I really bought this TV to watch movies, not surf the net #although the new trailer for Star Wars looks great on a big screen#. There’s also a pop-up camera at the top of the TV. Not a feature I’ll probably #but again, nice to have#. The on-board sound system is remarkably mainly because it doesn’t sound absolutely dreadful. Given how perilously thin the HX800 is, any expectation for reasonable stereo audio might seem optimistic. But it’s 2x10w sound system is good enough for casual viewing. The set is Dolby Atmos compatible, too, and will pass out an Atmos bitstream to a waiting soundbar or home cinema system. Other screens to consider Situated close to the HDMIs are two USB 2.0 ports, an audio-out for headphones or a subwoofer, and optical out for connecting something such as a soundbar. You have a choice of ethernet or wi-fi for connecting to the internet.LED TVs with HDR Bright Panel Plus screens are ideal for rooms that can get lots of natural light. Producing crisp colourful images and spectacular contrast, even on the brightest of days – giving you a clear view of the action. The set’s HCX image processor may not come with any AI-enhanced picture processing, but it remains an accomplished image engine. Native 4K generally looks excellent, with blistering levels of detail and texture, and it does a competent job upscaling HD resolution sources too.

Dolby Atmos support delivers room-filling stadium sound from the JX940. In addition, it features an innovative iteration of Panasonic’s flexible pedestal design *² . When the pedestals are placed in the outer position, it raises the TV up slightly to allow for a soundbar (such as Panasonic’s design-matching HTB490 model) to be placed below it, further enhancing the audio performance. Panasonic does cinematic sheen better than anyone. There’s a lushness to the HX800’s pictures which is immediately engaging. The image doesn’t prioritise LED brightness, but it’s all the more cinematic for that. Colour fidelity is excellent. Even the catch-all Normal viewing mode trades glare for big-screen glamour. Game Mode Extreme delivers significant reductions in input latency to improve gaming experience in addition to support for HDMI 2.1 Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and High Frame Rate (HFR) The JX800 is also Panasonic's first TV with Android TV OS, which it apparently combines with some of the aspects of Panasonic’s own 'My Home Screen' operating system. It’s good to see the company adding Android TV to its lineup. Could this be just a toe in the water ahead of a broader rollout next year? Panasonic 2021 TV range breakdown

Unlike static HDR, dynamic HDR technology like Dolby Vision allows the TV to manage high brightness and shadow detail on a scene by scene basis.
