About this deal

I have the same dilemma because: the explorer is around for 100 pounds less GBP, so remarkably cheap; battery powered is very appealing for certain scenarios,,,, vs, I could not give a crap about keys as I play Linnstrument; desktop is smaller so more convenient getting around with. Filter Two has a pair of SEM-like state variable configurations with a Morph control to blend between states. Being able to jump to anywhere in the signal flow easily at the press of a button is how it should be.

Of those, the five LFOs are identical, having all the expected waveforms, noise, plus a user waveform with up to eight steps. I find myself using the FM mutant a lot and Wave Stack (in limited amounts, always sounds trashy from very early in the pot). It's hardly surprising that the Hydrasynth's factory patches set the scene with some impressive Vangelis tones, paying particular homage to the Blade Runner score. At the same time, ASM designed the user interface in a way to allow you to edit the patch quickly with a minimal amount of paging and many workflow shortcuts. Standard PWM is on hand too, as well as 'Sqeez', a weird 'squash the waveform sideways' alternative. To speed things along you can define 32 'Favorite' patches which serve as more efficient entry points. To understand some of the excitement, it's worth stepping back and pondering what makes polyphonic aftertouch so enduringly fascinating.

You can also loop the envelopes to create LFO’s whose shape can be voltage controlled in the modulation matrix. Having dedicated buttons for the modules of the synth is just perfect, harkens back to Ensoniq, and should become standard on more synths. The first and last Effect Blocks each contain the same selection of Chorus, Flanger, Rotary, Phaser, Lo-Fi, Tremolo, EQ, and Compressor (with Sidechain). The Chord Function and the programmable Arpeggiator, provide 2x very powerful creative tools to work out your ideas on stage and in the studio.

The Mutant's can also generate its own waveforms in both FM and Sync modes so that you do not have use another oscillator. An indicator of the 'hold down a source and while pressed hit a destination and it will create a mod matrix link' would be great too. On top of that you get a further 200 or so waveforms which can be scanned during play for complex and evolving tones.
