Universal dovetail clamp suitable for all optical tubes which are equipped with a standard 44mm dovetail rail (Messier/ES/GP/Vixen). This clamp is very similar in appearance (apart from being black not silver) and layout to the existing TS one that I have been using. It’s a level of customization that puts you in complete control of your workspace, tailoring it to meet your unique requirements. With any standard 1/2” 14-degree dovetail router bit, you can create your own tracks, eliminating the need for expensive aluminum tracks. Most clamp arms are free to fall down when released forcing you to reset them every time you secure them, but not Microjig’s Ratchet Clamp.

The bits they supply leave a channel that is not sharp and needs no sanding, if set at the correct depth.

I've seen lots of online stuff where folk use both types of clamp in slots they've cut or built into wood but have not tried it myself (ignoring the fact I don't own either sort) as like you say, they do seem unreasonably expensive but also as I can't help thinking that's really not what they're designed for as any pressure in the opposite direction to that of the clamping force is acting on a weakened part of the timber.The long ratchet handle provides superior leverage making them easy to use for everyone even those with hand grip issues.
