Starting with the first player, you may look at the number of your explorer before placing it on an empty tile on the Atlantis landscape. The villagers' journeys are endangered variously by sea serpents, giant squid, sharks, and by whirlpools caused by the sinking land itself, and aided by dolphins and boats. To give some background for the ending, both of the adults were turning into animals, and the girl's dad turned into a dolphin, and by the time they were escaping he was fully a dolphin. Each player places 10 stranded people on the island of Atlantis (made up of terrain hexes in a modular fashion), and they have to try to get them off to the safety of neighbouring isles before Atlantis sinks. Yet most of this was Riley and Alfie finding dead ends and doing things that added no value to the plot.The true enjoyment lies in trying to remember who is worth saving and trying to deduce where your opponent’s high value meeples are.
While we get some insights to what is happening on Atlantis there is still plenty to unpack and we will be anxiously awaiting the next book. In terms of villagers, each of a player's 10 pieces have a hidden numeric digit from 1 to 6 located on the bottom. However, the other thing you do on your turn is decide which part of the island sinks next, thereby probably dropping someone into the water, maybe even summoning a shark that gobbles them up straight away.
