I expected this book from supposedly famous home designers Syd and Shea McGee to be about home design, but it is not.

You still get plenty of interior design advice from Shea, doubling as life advice and sprinkled throughout the book like scented candles in a wannabe designers home. There’s nothing more beautiful than taking a leap and devoting your life and your heart and your work to helping other people enjoy beauty in their own homes.Learn how Syd and Shea prioritized their values, defined their goals, and put their dreams into action - going from flat broke to design superstars - all while following their motto to “make life beautiful. I truly loved getting the peek behind the curtain and found it inspiring, interesting, fun and very well written - I couldn’t stop listening and finished it in just a few days!

As I just finished reading (well, actually listening to your book), I just wanted to take this opportunity in writing this review, to thank you both so very much for this wonderful book and for sharing your amazing story! I also admire their grit and their hard choices, how candid they are about some of the tough situations, and the secondary story of real love, trust, and spouse support.A he said-she said conversation between husband and wife about how they created their life together.

I was a huge fan of studio McGee’s work before reading this book, but now I’m super in love with their whole business and the founders. Inside these pages, you’ll find a heartwarming memoir that profiles the company’s beginnings, the McGee’s journey as a family, and all the lessons learned along the way. Thank you for such an honest peek into how you did it, what you gave up to do it, and why you keep doing it. I'm glad I went for audio version of the book, because I'm a bit of a slow reader and this book is so well narrated. Shea and Syd invite us into endearing conversations filled with wit, humor, creativity and an honesty shining light on the couples beautiful focal points.

It did not feel genuine - this book was created for the purpose of making money and not to help, guide, or inspire anyone. Those who are fans of the couple and their style or who are enjoy stories of how entrepreneurs built their businesses and "brands" will surely enjoy it a great deal.

This kind of story is that startup companies need to encourage themself to keep going, but on other side knew the risks (though in this story the risks taken was successful). Non-personalized content and ads are influenced by things like the content you’re currently viewing and your location (ad serving is based on general location). To me, the book fulfilled the premise: it's about the journey of a couple in building their successful business and what they learned in the way.I highly recommend their book and their Netflix series and only wish I could fly Shea out to redo my home! Making Life Beautiful Community Interest Company was established in Nov 2016 by retired social worker and founder of similar projects, Isobel Barnes along with a group of knowledgeable and experienced members of the community serving as directors. What on earth was the publisher thinking putting out a book by these talented designers that isn’t filled with pictures. Personally, this made it very choppy and repetitive for me and would have loved if the book was all in one person's perspective. Like many other reviewers have said, this isn't a design book with lots of glossy pictures and how-to moments.
