About this deal

or 199g), sturdy, compact enough to fit in a handbag, highly adjustable, totally non-electronic, and effective in nearly all lighting conditions.

It is a modern reinterpretation of the camera lucida, an indispensable tool popular in the days before photography was invented. Even our smallest, most affordable model, the LUCY mini, outperforms both NEOLUCIDAs, while costing less.Funders wanted: Camera lucida for modern times, cardboard medium-format camera, and binocular zoom for smartphones.

That’s interesting use of old technology, I’ve been using an overhead projector in my photographic work. For those not familiar with these devices, a Camera Lucida was an optical prism drawing aid that allowed the user to superimpose a scene they intended to draw onto their paper/canvas, allowing them to trace the basic outline and form. Careful examination of the sketch Study for "Paris Street; Rainy Day" revealed two sets of drawn lines: a faint, sketchily executed first set and a firmly drawn, ruled second set.But your brain blends the two views, making it look like your subject is "projected" onto your paper. They published Incidents of Travel in Central America (1841) and Views of Ancient Monuments in Central America (1844) to great acclaim. OCA students who registered before August 2022 can choose to be awarded by The Open University, or by the University for the Creative Arts (up to January 2024). I make models to help making drawing beyond my ability to invent in my mind, but the art part happens before rendering an image, and how it is finished off.

A side-note about “cheating”: I was surprised to find how many people accused Hockney of maligning the great western artists by suggesting they used tools to draw. The appearance of the first set, along with the drawing's accuracy to the site, suggested that Caillebotte may have used an optical device known as a camera lucida during the preliminary stage. To me, the Hockney-Falco thesis wasn’t about “unmasking the secrets” to reduce artist’s accomplishments. As a bonus, the entire DrawLUCY line is compatible with the Photo Enlarger accessory, opening up a whole new world of creative possibilities. In his 2001 book, Secret Knowledge: Rediscovering the Lost Techniques of the Old Masters, David Hockney presented compelling evidence that developments in representational realism in Western art since the Renaissance were propelled by the (sometimes secret) use of optical instruments, such as the camera lucida, camera obscura, and concave mirrors.
