About this deal

I loved this book, I cared so deeply for the characters and the ending, even though it was a good ending for the characters, it was human, not a fairytale ending but one of absolution. Eve, when we first meet her, was timid and shy but through no fault of her own as Don’s actions made her feel worthless, powerless and useless.

Whether historical adventures such as Gypsy or Never Look Back or the passionately emotive Trust Me, Lesley is inspired by stories of courage and adversity and often gives voice to women lost in history. As the book moved on though, I found myself disliking her slightly due to reasons I won't mention for fear of spoilers! She goes to the police and gets in touch with a social worker who helps her leave London to flee to a refuge in Sidmouth. But peace eludes her as she continues to be haunted by the past, and by the dreadful secret she cannot share with anyone.

Only, Don isn't capable of moving on, instead he harrases her every night until she decides to teach him a lesson - which goes very, very wrong. The 103 third parties who use cookies on this service do so for their purposes of displaying and measuring personalized ads, generating audience insights, and developing and improving products. But still she harbours a secret that if it came out it would ruin her and certainly later her new found friends opinion of her.

Whether crime as in 'Till We Meet Again', historical adventure like 'Never Look Back', or the passionately emotive 'Trust Me', based on the true-life scandal of British child migrants sent to Australia in the post war period, she engages the reader completely. I am delighted to be joining the blog tour today in celebration of Lesley Pearse’s 31st novel (what an extraordinary achievement) with an extract to share with you all and further details about Betrayal. In this book, we see just how strong and resilient women can be even when things literally "beat" us down!

I personally prefer her older books than the last 3-4 she’s published however would I continue to purchase or read any future books, of course I would… it’s Lesley Pearse! But life with Don is not an easy or happy one and Eve lives in constant fear of what he may do next.

After a particularly vicious beating, Eve finds the courage to report him to police and is offered sanctuary at a women’s refuge in far-off Sidmouth in Devon.
