I was away from home and conducting a podcast from an untreated front room with a high ceiling and untreated walls.

The low levels of self-noise also make it suitable for capturing subtle sounds, such as acoustic guitars and piano.ETHOS is a sure bet if you want a mic that sounds as neutral as possible but can deliver that warm FM broadcasting tone. Considering I've needed to pick up additional shields to clip onto previous microphones, this performance out of the box is incredible. It doesn't overly color the source or embellish it - it feels accurate, but not clinical or sterile. Generally, these cookies are only created based on actions you take in response to a service request, such as setting your privacy preferences, logging in, or filling out forms.

The Little Red Monster (LRM) is a large-diaphragm, multi-pattern tube condenser microphone influenced by the Neumann U 67. My first opportunity to use the ETHOS came over the Christmas Holidays, in less than ideal situations.This familiarity can boost confidence because the speaker will know what they say will sound more like them.

The included shock mount is also well made, and the mic can be easily swapped in and out of the mount for quick setup. Earthworks Audio includes a 3/8" screw thread attachment with the Ethos, saving me from digging around in boxes of miscellaneous accessories.

Since November, I've been working on a huge shootout of small-diaphragm condenser mics; I might have mentioned this in my last review. Thanks to the integrated (but removable for cleaning or replacement) windscreen, I required no additional pop filter.
