About this deal

Everything was still fresh and exciting and by the time the new stuff came into play I had a greater appreciation of what was going on because of the added info. I’m never a fan of obvious bad guys so Grulgor was a bit of an ‘eye roll’ for me and the Decius’ inner dialogue section could have been played as more of a struggle to turn to chaos. Story wise there is tremendous overlap with the other books, making it impossible to have any excitment or sense if urgency.

Spoilers->Rogal Dorn could have been explored more but it was not really necessary to the story (I just love the lore). Brought before Malcador the Sigillite Garro, Iacton Qruze and a Sister of Silence commander are given a speech implying that they become the first of the Inquisition. I also really enjoyed his Company's(and the Ship's crew's) battle with their new situation extremely compelling, and all the personal battles going on in this one was a treat. And super Mary Sue takes up too much space in the novel when they should have Reserve some more time Mercity Alton and Sidermen.Garro loses a talented up and comer, who’s (also resurrected) fly-ridden corpse Garro beheads on the surface of the Moon. His writing includes the Marc Dane action thrillers, the Sundowners steampunk Westerns and fiction from the worlds of Star Trek, Marvel, Tom Clancy, Warhammer 40000, Doctor Who, 24, Deus Ex, Stargate, 2000AD and many more. When the Istvaan 3 atrocity happens it’s up to Garro to flee the system and deliver the message of Horus betrayal. Lord Commander Eidolon uses an illegal alien organ grafted to his throat by Fabius Bile to kill the Warsinger with a sonic scream. With good reason too, the stage is grand, the situation is dire and all rests on the slimmest glimmers of hope.

However a lot of the dialogue falls into a common trap authors face when depicting astartes, particularly in 30k: they sound like parodies of Shakespearean characters. An awesome addition to the Horus Heresy series, Flight of the Eisenstein is a very strong read from veteran Blood Angels author James Swallow. In the Warp the ship's Geller engines fail, allowing a horde of undead rotting Plague Marines aboard. Having witnessed the events on Istvaan III, Deathguard Captain Garro seizes a ship and heads to Terra to warn the Emperor of Horus' treachery. They succeed in defeating the Plague Marines but one of Garro's squad, Solun Decius, receives a poisoned wound from their weapons. As a result, there are places where Garro can sometimes come across as a bit too similar to Loken in character, and it’s as if Swallow saw what characters people liked about the first three books and decided to incorporate some of them into his own.
