About this deal

Condition - This item is in Excellent condition or better (unless it says otherwise in the above description).

At least there aren't many pops or distracting surface noise issues, but I'd have rather had those than have a brilliant album be reduced to a shell of what it could have been. Literally sounds like someone ran the entire album through a maxed-out limiter and boosted the bass to appease newer fans who prefer heavy bass over clear mixes. The album master on vinyl is very bassy and sounds bloated on my stereo system, but through some nice bright headphones, it's manageable. The working title of the song “Heaven or Las Vegas” was “Crispy Fiver Blue,” a joke name that Melody Maker had included in a lampoon of the band’s tendency toward eccentric titles. The songs “Cherry-coloured funk,” “Pitch the baby,” and “Frou-frou foxes in midsummer fires,” were performed live with new arrangements by Elizabeth Fraser during her Meltdown Festival solo performances in 2012. The album is noteworthy for the musical evolution that the band displayed at the time, with their work becoming more accessible. Regardless of country of origin all tracks are sung in English, unless otherwise stated in our description.

The following songs have appeared in live performances: “Cherry-coloured funk,” “Pitch the baby,” “Iceblink luck,” “Fifty-fifty clown,” “Heaven or Las Vegas,” “I wear your ring,” “Wolf in the breast,” and “Road, river, and rail. An alternate version of “Pitch the baby” was recorded and released on the Mute Records/4AD compilation “Red Tape. This results in an almost infinite sonic template as she uses her wonderfully unique gossamer voice coupled with Robin Guthrie's sublime sequenced guitars and effects with the fluid bass playing of Simon Raymonde and that ever trusty Roland which almost sounds like a real drummer On Ice Blink Luck. EDIT: I still stand by much of what I've written above, but this does sound way better through some headphones rather than speakers in my experience.I'm starting to think there are no good vinyl releases of this album, nothing beats the 24bit lossless files you can get online.
