I won't rate/review a cookbook until I actually try a recipe so the first recipe I tried was The Pavlova. If you are looking for a comprehensive baking cookbook jam-packed with handy insights and useful tips, this is the ideal book for you and will no doubt be one you turn to time and time again whenever the need for a sweet treat arises! I want to thank Clarkson Potter and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of Mary Berry’s Baking Bible. I can see this being given to someone just getting started, either with baking or moving out on their own for the first time. Given the book is about as large a cookbook as can easily be handled I think I’d have preferred less recipes and more pictures.I'm especially interested in the very British and classic Victoria Sandwich (Sponge Cake), Banoffee Pie, The Best Scones and The Fork Cookies Recipe. Cordon Bleu trained in Paris, Mary began her career as a magazine cookery editor before publishing her first cookery book in 1966. She is well known for her many television appearances, culminating in the BBC1 series Mary's Berry's Ultimate Cakes and Mary Berry at Home . It needed to be made clearer that the book was second hand, maybe this was down to me not reading all the information. None of the recipes contains hard to source ingredients – many of which you’ll already have in your cupboards so that you’ll always be able to bake something from the book!

This may sound shocking to some of you but I had never heard of Mary Berry until I watched The Great British Bake-Off. Some tasty recipes in here- lots of excellent baking advice, the perfect book for the amateur baker to perfect there baking skills and to make some classic baked goods to a high standard. This revised and updated book is filled with an introduction on baking at home, the equipment needed, and all the different terminology. She was the much-loved judge on the BBC's The Great British Bake Off and has been teaching the nation to cook for over four decades.While I was there I discovered the very first Great British Bake Off, known on this side of the pond as the Great British Baking Show. This texture-packed loaf can be found in the chapter on bread, and is a lovely recipe to pull out as an accompaniment for dinner party cheese boards or for topping with cream cheese and smoked salmon at a weekend brunch.

The four stars instead of five is mainly the ulitization I got from this book- not disregarding the quality of it.

To put it in Bake Off terms, many of the recipes tend toward Show Stoppers, with a number also presenting a Technical Challenge.Taste glorious newcomers like her show-stopping Rainbow Cake and Quick Sourdough Loaf, plus timeless favorites, from Orange and Chocolate Shortbread to French Apple Tart. The recipes are astonishingly reliable, fabulous and work every time ( provided you follow the recipe in full). I will say straight-up that this is not a one for beginners, nor is it organized to be approachable for beginners. It’s not just her personality that does this, but her no-nonsense recipes that the everyday Joe and Jane can actually make at home.
