I really liked reading about how they met and their relationship and also their near death experiences. The 9 Step Negativity Detox is a powerful series that will teach you the nine simple steps to free you from the unnecessary causes of negativity in your life. There were some sections that made my eyes glaze over but I just like the warmth and heart (if you ignore the pun) of this book. TV documentary maker Simon Reeve has dodged bullets on frontlines, hunted with the Bushmen of the Kalahari, dived with manta rays, seals and sharks, survived malaria, walked through minefields, tracked lions on foot, been taught to fish by the President of Moldova, and detained for spying by the KGB.

Learning about the fish was one of the unexpected joys of watching the tv show, and having even more information in the book was a delight. Which, while fishing bar the most childish netting of tiddlers was never part of my youth, I absolutely recognise from stuff like climbing trees. Though I was a little taken aback about how they even manage to sound nostalgic when talking about eg getting kneed in the face by skinheads (and yes, jumpers for goalposts is already referenced in the text).For Arthur Dent, who has only just had his house demolished that morning, this seems already to be more than he can cope with. So they dusted off their kits, chucked on their waders and ventured into the achingly beautiful British countryside to fish, rediscover the joys of their friendship and ruminate on some of life's most profound questions, such as: How did we get so old? Really pleased with it, I had to look very very closely to tell that it wasn’t brand new and my husband had no idea. Clearly these are topics of no interest whatsoever to me, but be warned – even if you feel likewise, make sure you at least skim them, or you'll miss some wonderful asides, not least on Paul's perennial bugbear, Bob winding.

They create the look and feel of each episode by selecting the cameras, lenses and filters needed for the principle photography.

I love Bob Mortimer too, and though I have the same reservations about you about fishing, we gave this programme a go. But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a US Armed Forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. This leads to all sorts of philosophical thoughts and zen-like moments of clarity on what life is all about. These youthful adventures, being close to his dad, awoke in Paul a love of the beauty of Britain and its wildlife.
