About this deal

Five years of preparation have produced a timeless volume that is now the standard method for both trombone and euphonium. I’m an adult beginner, been playing about a month and have a teacher but wanted to get a book that seemed so obviously good and important. You can obviously add more clefs/keys, but this covered the clefs that a Tenor trombonist uses generally, and all of the keys once you applied this to the majority of the book. Beyond those specifics, I try to cover a few exercises from different sections when I practice from the book.

it's my belief that if the piece lies well enough on the slide we can play as just about as fast as trumpets. A more technical first part, made up of individual exercises where one or another technical facet of the instrument is practiced. This version is created for both trombone and euphonium, that is, written in Bass Clef and scores in C. Joseph Alessi (principal trombone of the New York Philharmonic) has written all the trombone text for this edition.Although the Arban method is, as we have already said, very, very complete, it can also be said that there are certain aspects that it does not cover, for which it would be necessary to focus on other methods that go deeper. When I was in school, my band teacher picked out pages for me to practice, but I have a hard time deciding what I should practice out of it. Carl Fischer, the publisher, did try to update the book somewhat by the addition of commentary by Alan Raph, however Raph's thoughts were merely added and did not supplant those of Mantia and Randall. Raph's exceptional edition also includes downloadable MP3 accompaniments to the 12 Celebrated Fantaisies and Airs Varies, as performed by John Walker, for a complete instructional package for trombone students.

Further, Arban contains those virtuoso theme and variations solos in the back of the book from which the highly regarded solos of Arthur Pryor, Gardell Simons and others are directly descended. The classic edition that has served as the method of choice for generations of trombone players, Arban's Famous Method offers the student a comprehensive system of study for the trombone, including scales, etudes, duets, solos, and extensive exercises designed to develop musicianship and technique. It is surprisingly hard to do these in that style, even after you have the exercises worked up very well.

By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions. The commentary by Simone Mantia and Charles Randall, while often amusing and actually not always that far off the mark, is obviously quite out of date. This edition of the Arban Method revitalizes the timeless studies with a contemporary stylistic interpretation, catering to musicians of all proficiency levels who seek to refine their skills. Best of all, the book itself is spiral-bound so as to lay flat on the music stand, a most welcome innovation!
