About this deal

In Losing Hope, readers will learn what was going on inside Holder's head during all those moments that left him feeling hopeless and see whether he can perhaps gain the peace he desperately needs. Both McGuire and Hoover suffer from the same problems with trying to retell their stories of romance by trying to "flip the script" and tell the same story from the hero's perspective. You probably faked passing out the other day, just so you could be carried in my hot, sweaty, manly arms. But then she runs into Dean Holder - messy brown hair, smouldering blue eyes, and a temper straight out of Fight Club, someone who Sky is determined to avoid. Colleen’s trade mark beautiful writing has a lyrical almost poetic feel to it, the beauty of the words belie the horror lurking within the pages.

He has this awful secret that you don’t actually know anything about until nearer the end of the story, that is when you find out that Holder already knows Sky, but he knows her by the name Hope. That was a MAJOR hole in the story for events, because how would Hope not remember her aunt begging the other family not to tell anyone? I’m sure you know what I mean; the type of books that swallow you whole, drown you in emotion then spit you back out as a chewed up, gnarled mess. While events in our lives, especially the traumatic ones, shape the people we become, they do not define us.To give Hoover credit compared to McGuire's narrative, at least there was an attempt to develop Holder's character in this work, particularly with respect to the loss of his sister, the loss of his childhood best friend (Hope), and trying to fit himself back to sorts after his behavior lends to rumors that run every which way but loose. It's been a long time since I've read Hopeless and I have actually forgotten how swoony Holder can be. However i read "Hopeless" a few months ago and was in fact ready to read it again, now i don't have to.

After reading This Girl its proven Colleen Hoover can even ROCK re-telling a story in a different pov! And I loved that there were new twists too - things that were going on with just him personally that took me by surprise in the most wonderful way. I wonder if it's possible for people to fall in love with a person one characteristic at a time, or if you fall for the entire person at once.

Honestly, I knew I was going to like Losing Hope, but I was afraid that it was going to be a lot like Hopeless, and therefore, a little boring. This is a heartbreaking page-turner that asks: Can a resounding love with a perfect beginning survive a lifetime between two imperfect people? If the woman wrote the insert directions on a box of tampons, I don't care what point of view it was written in; I'd just have my period all the time! It was nice getting to see more of Holder's relationship with Daniel and Breckin and it made me laugh when they were playing Modern Warfare.

I swear, if you loved him in Hopeless, you will fall in love with him more in this book, if that's even possible.

We are there with him every painful step of the way and afforded a truly different version through Holders voice. Holder starts the novel in a rough place just after losing his twin sister, and he lashes out in his grief. Now, if I thought my expectations couldn’t be surpassed with Slammed, Point of Retreat, This Girl and Hopeless…. Holder soon befriends Sky and starts to spend more time with her, but Sky herself doesn't seem to have any idea who Holder is. In Hopeless, Sky left no secret unearthed, no feeling unshared and no memory forgotten, but Holder's past remains a mystery.
